IGD Double-Sided Multi-purpose Custom Game Mat: Video:http://youtu.be/ao6sw9oec5E
Zombies Yes, Survival No
Pretty much every Zombie game out there whether it is a board game, video game, or whatever, is about surviving. In "If I'm Going Down..." (IIGD hereafter) you WILL NOT survive. While the character you play is doing everything he or she can do to survive, you know something they don't know... know matter what, they WILL DIE! This reality is what makes the game a Dying Card Game. You are trying to "take as many down with you" as possible.
IIGD places you in a scenario, like a Shack surrounded by a horde of zombies or a city street crawling with seemingly infinite zombies, a situation that is essentially hopeless. With each scenario the layout changes and your strategy may need to change as a result. You will likely have some resources with you, but to really kill a lot of zombies you are going to need to find more.
All the while the zombies continue to shamble, lurch, and stumble toward you hungering for your flesh. Your success in the game will be determined by the decisions you make like when to search, when to attack, when not to attack, and the outcomes of those decisions.
Rich Stories in an Evolving Zombie World
Each of the scenarios included in the game has multiple fully playable story lines, which answer questions and flesh out the world the characters now live in. Each story has multiple endings based on how well you do in the game providing hours and hours of entertainment. Some story lines include special rules for setting up and/or for playing through the story adding more re-playability and variety.
Example Scenario Story:
Play with yourself (there's nothing wrong with it)
Solo play was not tacked on this game. This game was built with solo play in mind! After all, isn't the ultimate zombie situation one where you are alone with no one else to save you? Maybe you are like me when I was stuck after Christmas with a popular zombie board game, but no one to play it with... when all I wanted to do was KILL SOME ZOMBIES! Look no further.
Don't want to die alone? Invite a friend over for some co-op action which adds in some interesting dynamics and interaction into the game. Can you kill more with a friend than you can alone? Or is your friend more of a hindrance than a help disagreeing with you on every decision? Add additional copies of the game for larger games of 3, 4, or even more players. Games greater than 4 players require you to create the layout, which segues perfectly to...
Create your own Scenarios! (optional)
Creating your own scenario is by no means required for those who just like to take the game out and play... but, for those who like to create stories and add their own twists and turns, the game is definitely open for some of your own creations. Create a layout, add some scenario specific rules, and tell a story of tragedy, heroism, love, loss, or whatever else your heart desires! No, this is not an RPG and certainly does not have a complete open source feel or function, but as the designer I wanted players to be able to have fun creating a hopeless situation as I have, and I look forward to seeing some fan created content!
To give you an example here are the 2 player layouts for both "The Shack" and "The Intersection", the two scenarios included in the core set. You can see how the layouts are different which can make for a different game. Within some of the scenario stories there are different rules that affect the game.
So feel free to break out the graph paper, design a layout and get those creative juices flowing! Or don't! The point is... it is up to you!
You have a Voice and a Vote
The goal is to keep backers engaged from the first pledge to the final submission. This will be YOUR campaign as much as it will be ours!
Throughout the campaign, there will be votes on many things including the promo cards, the special Kickstarter Only Scenario, and more! For every $5 you pledge you will get one point of voting power. So for example, if you pledge at the $25 level on the very first day you would be able to vote on all of the polls and your vote would be worth 5 points each time!
So basically there are two things you can do to have the most voting power, pledge early and pledge generously! The earlier you pledge the more options you will vote on! The more you pledge the more weight your votes will have! Keep an eye out for the KickStarter backer only updates which will contain the polls.
In the end, you will have helped create some of your own rewards! make sure you get in quick as the first vote will begin within 24 hours of the launch of this project!
As an example of the fun... check out the awesome fan concept come to life as voted on by the wonderful community on BoardGameGeek.com! There were several concepts proposed by the fans but ultimately the winner was...
"Dog walker dragging some remains of dogs still attached to leashes."
From this one sentence, Aaron produced a sketch... we modified it with our feedback...got another sketch... approved it... and then he produced the final version!
We will go through this process together for each of the 3 promo cards! And if you back at a level where you get to help create your own Zombie or Character concept you will personally get to go through this process for your reward!
BONUS! We have reached the $8k level so now everyone at the $35 level and above will get 2 additional Promo Cards (For a total of 5) AND the Custom Punchouts for the Custom "Zombies on a Plane" Scenario mentioned in the Updates!
Why we need YOU, and how you can help
Van Ryder Games is a new, fledgling game company. We need your support to help get "If I'm Going Down.." to print. With your monetary support we can add some additional art to the game and also order a quantity that makes sense economically. This will allow us to put any of the profit from future sales back into the company and our games rather than paying off debts and overhead expenses. Help make my passion and this dream come true by pledging today!
One of the things I love about Kickstarter is that you can support a project by spreading the word and sharing it with others. If for whatever reason IIGD just isn't for you, perhaps it is something a friend of yours would enjoy. A quick email, tweet, or facebook post can result in someone learning about and backing the project that would not have known about it otherwise.
Thank you for viewing the "If I'm Going Down..." Kickstarter page. Please consider pledging and help us spread the word about IIGD!

A BGG Review from one of our playtesters: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/705722/a-playtesters-review
All cards and images are of Beta prototypes. As you can see this is a very polished game in both style and function, however there may be some minor tweaks prior to manufacturing if doing so will improve the game further.
Never fear! You can pre-order at http://www.gamesalute.com
Plus this reserves a copy for you and ensures you get a copy from the first printing of the game.
The base game will allow for a 1-2 player game. You can add a 2nd set of cards to play a 3-4 player game. Plus, even though there are no 5+ player scenarios currently, you certainly could design your own layout and give it a shot if you had the inclination and the time.
NO! Neither. It is NOT a TCG/CCG or any other kind of game that has booster packs and random card assortments. Each game contains the exact same cards. It is also NOT a deck building game.
We have a LOT of ideas, but at this point we want to focus on getting the core set out. If we get the support we hope to, we will begin to discuss developing expansions. IIGD is such that there is the opportunity for lots of Fan created scenarios and stories! So you don't even have to wait to expand the game!
Well... Yeah! If you've made it this far, you must like them more than you are admitting to yourself. We think our game is quite unique compared to what else is out there. So go ahead and click that Green button and pledge!
Well, because we want to involve backers and allow the chance to create custom cards it will take some time for the art to be completed on the new cards. Plus, time to prepare, manufacture, and ship the completed product. We will work as hard as possible to get the game in your hands as fast as humanly possible. Remember the delivery date is an estimate and we'd rather be cautious than disappoint you by promising a date that can't be achieved.
As it has a mature theme, content, and language, we do not recommend the game for kids under 14. Some play testers have played the game with children under 14 and they enjoyed it. Ultimately, this is a parental decision.
