---- Game Objective ----
Take over NYC! Occupy every neighborhood in all boroughs on the map by systematically booting out neighboring players by rolling higher dice values.
If you like playing Risk®, you'll love Empire: The Game of New York!
For all you locals, feel the satisfaction taking back the neighborhoods you've been priced out of!
---- Genesis of Empire ----
Years ago, a group of my friends started meeting up on a regular basis for game night. One of our favorite games was Risk®. After many nights battling for world domination, we decided we wanted to fight over something closer to home. We drew NYC out on foam core and gave it a go... and Empire was born.
---- What's included ----
The Map: New York City (and neighboring Jersey) have been separated into 6 boroughs, distinguished by color palette:
- Manhattan in red
- The Bronx in orange
- Staten Island in yellow
- Queens in green
- Brooklyn in blue
- Jersey in purple
Each borough is broken up into neighborhoods. These are actual neighborhoods, but the size and boundary are exaggerated in this map for game play. Neighborhoods attached by bridges, tram or subway are considered adjacent. Instead of a typical chipboard game board, the Empire map is printed on artist canvas. It feels great to play on and can be rolled up for easy storage.
Player Cubes & Bricks: 6 tubs of painted wooden cubes and bricks. A cube represents 1 entity on the board, while a brick represents 10. Bricks are used as space savers when the map gets over populated.
Dice: 3 red instigator dice and 2 white defender dice
Neighborhood Cards: Each neighborhood on the Map has a corresponding card featuring a fun (and obscure) neighborhood fact and one of three NYC pests: squirrel, rat or pigeon. These cards will first be used to determine which neighborhoods you occupy at the start of the game. During game play, cards are accumulated and then cashed in for more player cubes. Includes 2 River Wild cards.
Secret Occupation Cards: These 6 cards are used to play an alternative (and shorter) version of the game. Instead of trying to occupy the entire map, players are independently (and in secret) trying to occupy only what is on their card. First player to complete his or her mission wins.
Tube: Roll up the canvas and slide all contents inside for easy storage!
---- What's Done ----
- All design elements are complete.
- I confirmed with a legal team that I'm not infringing on any copyrights and trademarks.
- I formed an LLC, Gundred Games, in the state of New York.
- I found a reputable manufacturer through the gaming community and have sent them samples to confirm production quality.
- Trademarks are filed for the Empire name and logo.
- Copyrights are approved for the map design, rules and card pack.
---- Next Steps ----
All that's left is placing the order. Once the funding goal is complete, I can green light production and start shipping games in 4 months! Let the battle for NYC begin!
Just for fun...
When my friends and I play, we take on a persona of who we want to take over NYC. This element is just for fun and does not affect actual gameplay. Although, I'm always extremely satisfied when my Trees take back NYC.
Thank you so much for your support!
