Quartermaster General: Prelude is an expansion to Quartermaster General, the fast-paced game about World War II strategy game.
You can play the Prelude expansion with the Quartermaster General alone, or use it in conjunction with one or both of the other the expansions, Air Marshal or Alternate Histories. Basically, any combination of the three expansions can be used. But you absolutely do not need these other two expansions to enjoy Prelude (and in fact, it has been more heavily tested using the base game alone).
The Prelude expansion contains • 107 Prelude cards • A player aid card • A rules sheet All packaged in a small box. We’ll also be providing backers with an exclusive promo tile, “Propaganda”, and possibly other stretch goals, depending on how we do (see below).
How Prelude Plays
The Prelude cards are not mixed in with the other decks, but are played during the Prelude “pre-game”, prior to the regular game.
During the Prelude, you’ll have a truncated sequence of play, designed to quickly move to the regular game and provide a high degree of variability. This is achieved by forcing the discard of the majority one’s Prelude cards in any one session. What we found the system is also designed to prevent any Prelude cards from being “auto-discards”. I think that you'll find
There are two flavors of Prelude cards: Armament and History. Armament cards are played face down to the table, and are used in the regular game (not during the Prelude). They work like Response cards, except that when you use one, you have to discard a different card from hand.
Armament Card Example: (Germany) Ersatz Goods - Use at any time. Use the game text of a Status card in your discard pile (once).
Ersatz Goods also satisfies another goal I had from the expansion - to moderate the effects of bad luck.
History cards are generally resolved right away, and have a tension modifier. When the total of the tension modifiers of all the History cards played reaches 10, the Prelude ends and the regular game begins.
History Card Example: (Japan) Black Dragon Society [Tension: +1]- Choose a Response card from your (regular) opening hand and put it face-down on the table. Then draw another card for your opening hand.
About the Backer Levels
I know some of you may want differing combinations of games and expansions and I would be happy to work with you to provide these as needed. My supplies of Air Marshal and Alternate Histories, and for now, I am only offering them in the United States.
Depending what happens on the campaign, I may offer some of the expansions and older swag as add-ons.
Although a modest project, I do intend to provide stretch goals on a frequent basis, to make sure backers get the best goodies, and to encourage you all to spread the word!
Your Value Proposition
Your backing this project does a few things. First, it provides you with a really great expansion, some exclusive swag, all at a fair price. For me, it shows me that what I'm doing is worth doing, and supports my effort to be a full time game designer. For your friends who like Quartermaster General, it increases the kickstarter total and therefore the number of stretch goals unlocked.
So thank you for backing this project! I know you won’t be disappointed!
