Benjamin Bailey and Taylor Stauft love action movies. They both have a deep love for Die Hard, Under Siege, Commando and the such. They also love comic books. Benjamin even co-writes a comic book called Captain Ultimate over at Monkeybrain Comics.
This leads us to UNCAGED, a one shot - roughly 40 pages - comic book that could probably best be described as Die Hard in a zoo. We love campy, over-the-top action movies, so why not make our own in comic book form? UNCAGED is a tribute to everything that embodies the action movies of the 80s and 90s. It's a tribute to a genre we adore.
Here's a little taste of the tone of the series. We created a trailer, of sorts, for UNCAGED with some help from our friend Chelsea Meachem. Keep in mind, this isn't the final look of UNCAGED, but rather a proof of concept. Dim the lights, cue some music:
Now, you probably wanna know where your hard-earned dollars are going, and that's understandable. The money raised here will be going directly to the lettering, coloring, printing and shipping of UNCAGED. Letterer Adam Pruett and colorist Ed Ryzowski - both of whom work with Benjamin on Captain Ultimate - will be contracted for UNCAGED. Artist Jonathan Moore with also be compensated for his cover work. The rest of the money will be used to print UNCAGED, various promotional material and, most importantly, to ship the final printed package to you.
Benjamin Bailey and Taylor Stauft are taking no payment for their work on UNCAGED.
A super sweet John McClane sketch by Erik Burnham! Check out the $75 reward level!
If we hit $8,150, we'll be bringing Mr. Joey Esposito on to the project as an editor!
Risks and challenges
Look, things can go bad. We're not immune to setbacks. Obviously, the biggest setback is delays in scripts and/or art which would set the whole timetable back. The good news is, UNCAGED is already in production, we're working on it right now. The plan is to be fairly ahead of schedule before this Kickstarter even finishes.
If, for some reason, either Taylor or Benjamin is unable to finish their half of the project, a suitable fill-in will be brought in. Benjamin already works within the comic industry, so finding new collaborators should not be a terribly difficult.
Other things, such as death, injury or personal tragedy could derail the project, as well. In such cases, there is not much we can do to put things back on track, mainly because we'd be dead.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
