A prototype is a preliminary model of something. Projects that offer physical products need to show backers documentation of a working prototype. This gallery features photos, videos, and other visual documentation that will give backers a sense of what’s been accomplished so far and what’s left to do. Though the development process can vary for each project, these are the stages we typically see:

About

  RTK Box is a high performance and low power consumption for affordable RTK positioning device, can also receive two sets of satellite signals of GPS, BeiDou, Glonass, through high-performance GNSS receiver output precision observation, high-performance ARM processor based on these data real-time carrier phase decomposition, output cm-level precision positioning results.

  The characteristics of low power consumption and small volume, low weight make it can be easily integrated into the small unmanned aerial vehicles, real-time to provide aircraft cm-level accuracy positioning data.

We want to make a simple, affordable RTK high-precision positioning equipment for UAV automatic flight, lawnmower automatic driving, accurate measurement and other applications.

Product design and development process

Circuit part of the design, and now we have done four versions

The first design  

a total of five interfaces, antenna interface, two UART interface, a JTAG interface and a MicroUSB interface, distributed in the circuit board on four sides. MCU is STM32F746.

 Successful: 1. To achieve a 4HZ RTK, GPS + Beidou 2. Can be directly used with Pixel Hawk UAV flight control, no additional data transmission hardware.

The second design: made three improvements

1. Allows the user to set the mode through the software, the base station or measuring station.  

2. Cancel the antenna part of the circuit.  

3. In order to match the helical antenna easy to use, the antenna interface to the middle.

 

 The third design:made four improvements

1. Re-select a higher performance MCU, from the original 216MHZ increased to 360MHZ, can provide 5-10HZ positioning frequency.

 2. Add a button, allowing the user to manually set the current position of the base coordinates.

3. All interfaces, including indicators on both sides of the circuit board, easy to use in the box.  

4. Increase the TF card, used to store data to achieve PPK.

 

The third version of the circuit looks inside the box With the protection of the box, do not worry about the circuit is damaged. So on the current name RTK Box.

 The fourth design After the box, we made a little improvement, the LoRa, 3DR Radio two wireless data communication module is also packed into the box, the use of very convenient.

The fourth design 1. Increase LoRa / FM Radio, GSM two antenna interface. 2. Increase the electronic compass, gyroscope, barometer and other sensors. 3. Add the SIM card slot.

Risks and challenges

Hardware:
GNSS RTK Box has been developed nearly a year, We have go through 4 batch of working prototypes. For now, all the bugs and bad user experience design has been fixed in order to make stable.
Software:
Our custom firmware and app has been iterate many times. the firmware is almost done.
Production:
For mass production, We've cooperate with manufacturer who has actual experience of camera related project production, the whole team members will follow and join the whole process of manufacture like upload firmware, quality test.
