About this project
Welcome to The Vi
A durable and practical card holder, engineered in the UK.
STRETCH GOAL: We hit £9000, we will go orange and purple! These new colours will be available for an estimated January dispatch. If you have pledge on a Performance Vi (Red, Blue & Black) you can change your pledge now or once the campaign is over.
VIDEO UPDATE #3: We are half way through the project, heres a video update.
The Viig ® eco-system is to identify a challenge, apply appropriate design methods and produce the highest quality products. The word Viig ® derives from a Swedish word for flexibility and agility, and this is how we see our design philosophy.
The word Vi means "5 intelligent solutions" Light, Compact, Elegant, Functional, & Simple. We think we've done it!

Designed and created in the south of England, this elegant card holder sandwiches a single plate of durable aluminium between high wearing nitrile silicone sides giving a simplistic yet functional product. Your Vi is designed to fit a minimum of 6 embossed cards, whilst snugly fitting a maximum of 8. The highly accurate nitrile rubber cradles are designed to "just pinch" to keep them safe but also slide out so you can easily pay for all your stuff....
Ergonomics, the main DNA in designing the Vi
The "V" shaped cut out is perfect for your thumb or finger to select and find the card you want, the carefully designed lower edge inside "step stacks" your cards also for easy selection. The glass blasted effect on the rubber gives a perfect grip when wet, dry, hot or cold.
- Aircraft aluminium 6083-T6, hard anodised (ISO 10074, and BS 5599)
- Nitrile (NBR) - Silicone mix
All our parts for the Vi are manufactured within a 3 mile radius of us, so a fully British product without compromise, "Made in Britain 100%" helps our belief in low carbon footprint for the Vi, keep it clean!...
We also use a rumbling process on the aluminium before anodising to achieve that glossy finish, they look great when in colour or in bright silver.
I've been using the Vi card holder for over a year now, the Classis Vi you see in the picture below and in the video is the holder I'm currently using, it's had 3 months of hard graft!
With these materials you can use most of the home cleaning products to bring your Vi back to clean life...
Reasons to consider the Vi:
- 100% Recyclable.
- Comfortably use in your front pocket.
- Aluminium core means no broken cards.
- NFC ready, so long as you have no other conflicting cards.
- It looks cool!
- Highly durable materials, expect your Vi to last.
- Did I mention it looks cool....
Where is our set-up and how will we do it.
Where: I'm based in London at present, but migrating to Dorset to be close to our suppliers and my brother who will be assisting, and establish the final parts for production at our home facility there.
How: Our trusty adhesive applicator/dosing machine and registering tool is in place, We have a cleaning process being set up to make sure all the constructed wallets are as perfect as they can be, Then starting with the protective inner packaging and stickers, Hattie (my girlfriend) will be boxing master (putting things in boxes, not hitting people) thus making all the little Vi's safe to ship. The logistics company tell us "we are ready when you are" and will then wiz them as fast as possible to all those lucky Kickstarter pledgers.
What will your pledges do...
All we need now is you! With your belief and backing we'll be able to make initial orders, and finalise all the processes and investments to make the first batch and deliver to all our amazing backers. We want to also develop the personal touch with laser engraving in-house and deliver this without delay or spelling mistakes to our Vi users who like individuality. Also hopefully look to future projects... we believe in evolution.
Every Vi card holder will come packaged in it's own box for shipping, with a thank you business card for your support on Kickstarter.
Risks and challenges
The first risk is the management of delivery and organisation for the proposed orders. I have personally put a great deal of effort in to the logistics to sure we acquire the perfect packaging to carriage the Vi, and I'm currently involved with a specialist company who are designing a bespoke box for the Vi and have guaranteed a 7-10 day delivery time slot.
Our suppliers assure us they can handle orders of the proposed capacity, this will cover the 'Early Bird' orders for December with January orders to follow shortly after. I'm confident in our suppliers and their ability to fulfil this pledge to you.
The final reservation is the quality of the anodising. I am a perfectionist and I have noticed that some early prototypes of the Vi acquired a ghosting effect where the plates were not evenly dipped into the anodising solution. This effect can show uneven colouring around the plate edge, and we have taken the necessary steps to eliminate this. Our suppliers will quality check every plate and re-anodise plates that do not meet our high standards. The other side to manufacturing the Vi is the method for making the silicone sides. We have specific tooling to manufacture 8 at a time with the possible expansion to 16 if necessary.
As a personal touch, i will be assembling each Vi myself. Should this task become something I can not fulfil, I have other members of the VIIG team at hand to take on any additional load. We do not see this being a concern, as we've consulted with many other methods of assembly which could stream line the process further.
We will keep our backers involved in every step of the journey. From our first completed Vi to the last, we will make sure you know, what we know and how we are doing with every element of the production process. We will be running a daily blog and updating the social links as we proceed.
This is a big project for us all. The launch of this project has been a disputed in the preceding months, and we have decided that Kickstarter is the perfect launch platform for our eco-system. I would not be where I am with the Vi, if I did not believe in its success. Not only am I professionally able to fulfil on this promise to you, but I will be personally devoted to each step of this project.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
Yes, It will automatically add £3 postage fee onto your pledge.
Yes, the Vi will work with NFC enabled cards, however, if you carry more than one NFC card this may lead to conflicts.
It can hold 6, but also 8 snuggly, it can also mix with 4 cards one side and bank notes the other if you so wish.
The rubber cradle can move forwards and backwards to allow for cards one side and notes the other if you like. It does perform at best with 4, 6, or 8 cards as most people have at least this many, we designed it for that.
