dodles has revolutionized the computer animation process! Built around simplicity, design speed and functionality, the illustration suite adds a fresh twist to the traditional brushes, shapes, fonts, and image editing found in many creative suites. dodles adds to illustration a powerful and innovative suite for animation. Central to this is Canimations: a breakthrough, pre-canned approach to instant animation with “intelligent objects” that have preset functionality. Just drag, drop and animate!
Collaboration & Marketplace Collaboration exponentiates beauty! The dodles marketplace allows creators to design their own projects using the work of other artists. Artists can promote, post and sell their work in the Marketplace by licensing original characters, objects, scenes, sounds, and more. Dodles helps artists protect their intellectual property through the timestamp for each asset and by crediting the original author with a tag that follows licensed content throughout the system.
Craig's Proven Track Record
Craig Doriot has a proven, extensive history of turning technical innovation from concept to sale on shoestring startup budgets. He co-founded Yupi Internet, a major Hispanic-based search portal, in 1996 (sold eventually to Microsoft). He led the turnaround web strategy for a water filter distribution which spun off into a company with sales exceeding $10 million annually. And his latest startup venture (LoanSifter) was sold in 2013 amidst a number of challenges that form our story, being produced into an animated comic within the app itself.
Craig's sale proceeds from LoanSifter are nearly spent in funding this project, which he sees as easily his greatest opportunity to date.
The highs and lows of Craig's fascinating adventures are the subject of a funny musical animation interwoven throughout the dodles app as progress rewards. Some of the highlights include: the embarrassing story of meeting his future wife on a plane, dealing with corrupt sharks in the business world, learning to seek and follow and trust God, and the founding of dodles.
Dodles believes in the unique value of every single person, and wishes to use its influence to highlight the plights of those who are often discarded by society, because they don't fall into acceptable norms. We believe dodles will help those with autism by turning their ability to hyper-focus into productivity and become effective in communication, as they learn to express themselves through dodles' creative tools and find self-worth in the collaborative universe.
Craig has overcome many barriers to have a successful career and marriage as someone diagnosed with High Functioning Autism (formerly asperger's), along with his dodles colleague and Chief Innovation Officer, Paul Klemstine. He hopes that the public success with dodles will raise awareness of the capabilities of those with autism, while also inspiring others who struggle with it.
Project Status & Fund Usage
We estimate the project to be about 80% complete, having completed an extensive back-end with the ability to ramp up quickly, and having completed all major "heavy lifting" on the front end.
What has been accomplished to date? A complete social platform: user profiles, single user and group chat, posts, sharing to facebook and twitter, video rendering output of animation, comments, loves, an inline editor drawing response, search, browse, hashtags, etc.
On the illustration side, dodles has created brushes (chalk, pen, pencil, marker, calligraphy), erasers, color palettes, filled shapes, fonts, etc. We also have image manipulations functionality such as masking flipping, skewing, rotating, etc.
On the animation sides, dodles has animation breakthrough capabilities in timelines, scenes, bone structures, canimations, phases, and much more! We are a bit sensitive in how much we divulge here as we are actively working towards patents.
Most of what needs to be accomplished yet for beta relates to tightening the look and feel of the interface and adding interface motion. Testing to remove bugs. Adding animation special effects. Adding content videos for contextual help to ensure a smooth user experience for all.
The transactional system that governs the collaboration and licensing is the last remaining significant piece to be completed. However, we believe beta can begin with a more limited set of licensing options and can be advanced during beta. The game-building engine comes in the next pass after full launch.
The funds will be used to complete & test the final stages of the functionality mentioned above. 8 to 10% goes to kickstarter and credit card fees. About 40% goes to paying for any overhead associated with the rewards, their management, and the ongoing community dialogue. So, we are expecting a remaining 50% of funds to cover these final development pieces.
For the color/artwork on the tshirts, sketchbook, and posters, we plan to submit some designs back to the community for voting on preferences.

Risks and challenges
Though past performance never guarantees future success, Craig Doriot has a proven, extensive history of growing technical innovation from concept to sale on limited startup budgets as detailed above.
As with any technology project, technical challenges may arise to slow development or force a change of course. Dodles has overcome the vast majority of technical challenges and has an app that performs well across iOS, Android and the web; built to scale rapidly.
The interface needs will require ramping up some new technology and creative resources to the project, so there can be a few weeks involved to onboard new resources and actually deliver.
The app requires approval from the iOS and Android storefronts, and that process does rely on third party approval. Due to iOS restrictions, dodles cannot offer beta access as a direct reward, so that will need to be handled through the web version, aside from special considerations for iOS.
Because of our confidence and commitment to the project and the desire to minimize outside control, we are actively seeking creative solutions for obtaining additional working capital that would minimize outside dilution at this early, sensitive stage. For example, Craig secured a high interest, private mortgage on one of his homes and is seeking to do the same on his vacation home.
Finally, Craig still has approximately $150-200K remaining in personal investments that he is still liquidating for the project. We are gauging the crowdfunding/investor/financing response to determine what plans, if any, need to be pushed out past launch.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
