About this project
In a land without color how far will one girl go to save it... and herself.
THE STORY SO FAR...
LUMIN is a retro inspired side scrolling platform game about one girls journey to bring color back into her world. The player takes control of Katelyn Demissio, a young girl, as she journeys into the Kingdom of Lumin to rid the land of 'The Grey', restore color to the kingdom, and rescue the royal family. Of course, nothing is so straight forward and we soon learn prior to the games start that Katelyn is a lost member of the royal Lumin family who was taken from the kingdom by former master-at-arms Demissio during 'The Grey's' invasion. On his deathbed Demissio reveals Katelyn's true heritage and she sets out to save her family and bring color back to Lumin. Many surprise twists and turns will be revealed during the games progression that will keep the player on their toes and wanting to see what comes next.
LUMIN takes its design style from the classic art of such systems as the Nintendo Entertainment System, Sega Master System, and Commodore 64. Some of the current art is a placeholder, and will be replaced with final 8-bit inspired pixelated sprites in the near future. The most obvious addition will be Katelyn herself with her sprites currently going through final approval along with the varied enemies that will change along with with each level. Much of what you see in our demo is engine test work showing what Lumin can do running on multiple platforms. Much of the generic tiles (floors, walls, boxes, backgrounds) are there as early placeholders of their final pixelated designs to help test out functionality of the game world, but will end up being much more detailed in the games release.
If you have played any platform game from the days of the original Nintendo Entertainment System then LUMIN will feel like an old friend. Running and jumping are at the core of LUMIN allowing for a quick pickup and play adventure while on the go.
The story of Katelyn's adventure in LUMIN will be told through opening level narratives done in a comic panel style like those in our videos opening. We will also have in-game NPCs both interactive (That will guide the player) and non-interactive (that will help fill the world). The story elements will quickly move the story along and can easily be moved forward with a simple touch of the screen so you as the player will not have to sit through cut-scenes every single play-through.
'The Grey' is the name for the enemies in LUMIN as will as the name for the games main boss. The game will have multiple enemies from slow moving slug like creatures (see screens), flying bug type monsters, light seekers (that follow the player when nearby), and several others each with their own unique design. Because the world has been stripped of its color 'The Grey' can't be hurt by the player so avoiding enemies is always the best course of action.
WHERE THE MONEY IS GOING
Every single penny earned here on Kickstarter will going into the making and publishing of LUMIN.
LUMIN is currently set to be priced at .99c on all mobile platforms but if we reach our funding goal then the full game will be released as a totally free download.
We also plan on keeping the game updated with additional levels that will be available as in-app purchases if our funding permits.

Risks and challenges
There is only one major risk in the development of LUMIN and that is time. If we reach or surpass our funding goal then LUMIN is scheduled for release this October, or late November barring any unforeseen circumstances. LUMIN is already well into development so the more funds we raise the quicker it will be completed, released, and ported to other platforms.
We are a small team consisting of one developer, an artist, story & level designer, and marketing manager. We started Shadow Gallery Media in our spare time to create and develop fun and simple games that you can pick up and play on the go and LUMIN will be our first major release.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
