About this project
NOTE: We will have German, French, and Spanish rules available for download upon publication of the game.
THE GAME: It is 300 BC. Since being founded as a Republic in 509 BC Rome has grown in power and influence. Now it is your time…
You and up to 4 other players are one of Rome’s great leaders. Take control of legions and lead them across the known world for the next 600 years as you deal with uprisings, rebellions, political intrigue, and wars. Players can make alliances with one another (and true to Rome, break those alliances!) maneuver their forces and the enemies of Rome, all as they try to become the one true Caesar! All others are fed to the lions and their legacies lost to history…
Enemies of Rome is a fast playing (under 2 hours) for up to 5 players that is fast, fun, family friendly, strategic, and educational.
Described by Play tester Chris Smith as, “A smarter Risk style game with more strategy! A great learning experience. Most importantly its fun for the whole family.”
A large hard mounted game board.
Players use the deck of cards to form their hands of 2 cards for each game turn. The cards have historical events that allow you to move your legions to battle for your glory OR the enemies of Rome to battle the other players.
The cards have historical events from the 600 year period in the game taking Rome from republic to empire.
The 55 card deck is broken down into 3 historical periods and players start with deck I that is from 300 BC to 100 BC. Deck II is from 100 BC to 100 AD. Deck III is from 100 AD to 300 AD.
In battle the players roll a battle die for each legion (cube) present. The legion player rolls the red roman battle dice, while the enemy of Rome units roll the green battle dice.

How to play summary:
Set up the play deck and components
Each player takes a turn in the sequence:
- Place new units: Receive three legions from their stockpile and place.
- Draw Card: Draw one new card from the draw deck. (Skip this phase on turn 1)
- Intrigue Phase: You may spend one intrigue talent if you have one.
- Play card: Play one of the two cards in your hand for movement and/or battle. It is placed face down in the discard pile.
- Add glory: Add glory points and receive intrigue talents if earned.
There are four types of movement:
- Legion Land movement
- Legion Naval movement
- Enemy of Rome Land movement
- Enemies of Rome Naval movement
A battle occurs whenever two opposing cubes occupy the same area.
The red player chooses to move 2 Legion groups from the card he plays. One legion must remain in the area that he moves from.
After all moving is completed, the battle starts. Dice are rolled together, and then hits are applied.
Both enemies of Rome are eliminated, and 1 Legion is eliminated. For the turn Red player earns one glory point for gaining control of Moesia in battle.
The player ending the game with the most glory points is Caesar. In the event of a tie between two or more players, the player with the most Legions on the board wins. All other players are fed to the lions in the Coliseum!

Make us Earn It!!! We can't even imagine what to do at this level, but if you get here we'll figure something very good---we're looking for suggestions (but remember we want to stay in business afterwards so don't break the bank on us!).
Risks and challenges
We've successfully launched and fulfilled 17 kickstarter projects so we know the challenges as a game company. The biggest challenge is meeting deadlines so we've built in wiggle room in the timing on this one. We also have the game design and development complete. The rules are complete (though we edit up to the day of printing).Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
