About this project
"Exposing oneself to annihilation to find that which is indestructible."
Glass Butterfly is a student project based in San Francisco, CA. It is a narrative music video envisioned by Jennifer Phang, approximately 4 minutes long with a custom score by DJ Amar, including belly dancing choreography done by Vanessa "Freyja" Naja and Jennifer Faust. The premise is Freyja chases her wayward butterfly tattoo into a surreal fantasy land where she is drawn by the call of Faust, an earth-bound forest goddess, and three mysterious music-charged entities. The butterfly unites Freyja and Faust through a liberating tribal fusion belly dance.
We initiated this project 3 months ago. As of this time we've completed 90% of our pre-production schedule, this includes the elements of: story boarding, asset planning, dance choreography, composing music, research and development for visual effects. We are currently projected to do a 7 day shoot, both on location and utilizing our schools green screen studio.
The 7 day shoot schedule is happening the last weekend of June and the first weekend of July, our current goal is to have the completed project by the end of Spring 2013. Currently we are looking at approximately 130 shots, almost all of which contain visual effects elements. We plan to accomplish this under the leadership of Catherine Tate, who has worked at: ILM, The Orphanage, Photon VFX, Wildbrain, ESC Entertainment, Framestore CFC and Peerless Camera Company Ltd. Along with her huge amounts of industry experience, she already has a working relationship with Jennifer Phang working on productions such as Advantageous and Half-Life. Together they have organized a specialized class to teach the students step by step the process of working from beginning of a production to final delivery and completion.
With over 20 students already working on the project outside of their normal responsibilities, we have a dedicated core team excited to take on the challenges of this production. Initial steps to CG production have already been taken, R&D has been proceeding for over a month and we feel confident in delivering a quality product. We have used all our resources to their full potential and we'd like to raise $4,500. Those funds would go towards our costumes, make up, and props departments. In addition we would be able to provide our students with one hot meal a day during shoot days, with a small budget left over for any costs that might occur unexpectedly.
The follow is a short biography of all the major players on our project.
