[English below!]

[English version]

As a Ringconnie of the very first hour, I learned with a sad heart today that the Fedcon GmbH has decided not to re-invite Mark Ferguson as their MC for Magic*Con 2018, obviously for financial reasons.

While I can understand this decision from the Fedcon's point of view since they have to think economically because they make their living from these conventions, I still see it as a fatal mistake from the visitors' point of view.

Even though the Fedcon GmbH is forced to arange Ring*Con/Hobbit*Con/Magic*Con from an economical point of view, even though they are only interested in the number of total paying guests and the number of autographs and photosessions they spend money on, one main reason - if not THE main reason - for many of the visitors to come back to the con year after year is their "Con Family".

Mark has been part of this Con Family ever since 2002, and in the one single year when he wasn't able to attend Ring*Con, Lori, Craig, and Nessi had to compensate for him. They did an awesome job, and Team Mark was born this year (Mini-Mark, Sexy-Mark, and Deutsch-Mark), but Mark was still heavily missed.

I still remember the first few Ring*Cons when Marc B Lee was the convention's MC, a guy who often came across rude or maliciously and tattled about the visitors behind their back. From the moment in which Mark Ferguson was hired as the MC instead, the atmosphere on stage changed: Mark always meets visitors and guests in a polite, sincere, friendly, and downright respectful way. He is spending more time on stage than his predecessor ever did, and he is always doing his best to make all guests feel welcome and comfortable, especially the guests who played smaller parts and are less popular.

In short: Mark is much more than an exchangeable MC in my eyes. He is the glue that keeps the con together, he significantly contributes to the familiar atmosphere on the convention, and his stage presence is one major reason for the con's high reputation around the globe.

As a post in the Facebook group "We are MagicCon" showed, I am by far not the only one who thinks and feels this way, and that's why we have decided to launch this Kickstarter campaign to get Mark back to Magic*Con.

If the Fedcon GmbH decided to re-invite Mark as MC for the 2018 Magic*Con, the costs for his flight, hotel, meals, and fee would account for 15.000 Euro. Please don't fall off your chair in shock now or strike your colours because: First of all, Mark has to spend more time on stage than every single other guest - and every guest gets paid a higher fee! And secondly, 15.000 Euro are not as much as it might seem - at least not for the Con Family!

Just think about it: We are sooo many! More than 3000 Ringconnies, probably even many more. Even if only half of us were to donate 10 Euro each, we would have already reached our goal. And if somebody can't give 10 Euros, then 5 Euros help as well. Let's show Dirk and the Fedcon GmbH how strong out Con Family really is. Together we can make it, I really believe in it! <3

Risks and challenges

Thanks to Kickstarter, there is no risk in donating.
If we can put the required money together, we will have prooven to Dirk and the FedCon that the Con Family is more than talking hot air and that Mark Ferguson is really important to us.
If we fail and can't raise enough money, none of you will be charged their donation money because if a Kickstarter campaign fails, the money is never collected from the donors!
