HAPPINESS IS DOG SHAPED BOOK
The Happiness is Dog Shaped book is a beautiful collection of dog stories, as told by their humans, of how dogs have brought happiness into their lives. The stories will be a combination of funny, heart-warming and the everyday delights of the happiness of dogs. All complemented by delightful photography and unique images commissioned especially for the book.
The book is presented as a foil-printed hard cover, wrapped in a meticulously designed and visually beautiful dust jacket. The book is 21cm x 21cm and 120 printed pages.
This book will be one you’ll want to share with friends and family, proudly display in your home, office or any place that needs an extra touch of happiness. The book will also make a lovely gift to yourself or for a loved one for Christmas.
The Happiness is Dog Shaped book will ship worldwide in November, 2017 in a custom-made mailer with branding detail.
The happiness project has been long in the making. We haven't just thrown this campaign together hoping we could figure out the details as we move along. The concept phase has lasted for well over a year and we really started knuckling down on all the details late last year.
Our human is very experienced in high-level project management, so she's a stickler for detail and all the 'little things' - like budgets, operational compliance, accountability and the stuff that isn't fun but is vital to the success of any project. An abbreviated version of our project delivery timeline is below. Of course, there's a bunch of detail behind each of these points and they've all been meticulously thought-out and mapped so we deliver our pledges to you as promised and on time.
Our human has been working to raise funds and awareness for dogs in need for a long (long) time. People who know her know she cries pretty much every time she sees a dog. And, that's just an expression of her happiness. When she hears of a dog in need, the response is vastly different. There are tears of heartbreak, but she is also mobilised to act and make a difference. You can read more about our human's work with dogs in the 'about' section of our campaign.
We want to talk about the charities that you will be supporting by committing your pledge today.
Pets of the Homeless
Homelessness is a significant social issue. On any given night, one in every 200 Australians are homeless. For many, the only comfort, love and companionship they have, comes from their pets. For some, homelessness has become their only option after refusing to separate from their beloved pets.
Your pledge to our campaign today will help Pets of the Homeless keep best friends together, provide food, veterinary care and other support to pet owners in need. And, help people who are at risk of or currently experiencing homelessness by making sure their companion pets are well looked after.
Dachshund IVDD Support Australia
We love our dachshund community! We've had the privilege of meeting and befriending doxie owners from around the world. One such friend is Princess Lilo Weenie (above). Meeting Lilo helped us learn about Intervertebral Disc Degeneration (IVDD).
One in four dachshunds are now affected by IVDD. It’s actually the genetics of the short legs, not the long backs of dachshunds, that pre-disposes them to IVDD.
The team at Dachshund IVDD Support Australia (DISA) provide an invaluable service to the many dachshunds affected by IVDD each year.
At DISA, prevention, information and support are their key goals. We are truly moved by the community they support and the lengths they go to assist owners to make well-informed decisions regarding the care and treatment of dachshunds affected by IVDD.
We've bundled up a reward to suit every budget. Starting at just $1 for warm and fuzzies and incremental rewards to include a book, a book feature, book bundles and a VIP Launch Pawty, we're sure you'll find a happiness reward to suit.
Detailed information on rewards can be found in the project rewards section ('Back this project button' if viewing from mobile, to the right on desktop).
We'll be providing regular updates through this page, including some sneaky behind the scenes photos as the project progresses. We'll also ensure we capture any FAQs and add them to the project page.
But, you might already have some questions about this project. So, we wanted to pre-empt these with some additional information:
Why is our funding target so low (for book production)?
We have already funded much of the project. This project is about reaching out to our community to source stories and to amplify our fundraising for our two nominated charities. And, of course, for you to purchase your copy of the Happiness is Dog Shaped book!
How do I nominate my preferred charity?
Once you've claimed your reward, you'll hear from us via an email to ask you to nominate your preferred charity. We'll be posting updates about funds raised for each charity, when we've remitted funds to our charity partners and how your donation is making a difference to the work they do. Thank you for being pawsome and contributing to a project that makes a difference to those in need.
How do I submit my feature story or cover dog information?
We have a simple form that captures all the information you'll need to submit to claim your feature. We'll send you a link to the form, which will need to be submitted by the happinessisdogshaped.com website. Please wait until you receive the link from us and do not submit any information via the website until requested to do so.
What about the other stuff?
It's not all rolling around in the grass, getting covered by dog hair and picking up poop. We take 'all the stuff' pretty seriously.
You can feel comfortable committing your pledge today knowing that we've taken steps to be transparent about 'all the stuff', to give you peace of mind. We take your pledge of support and this project seriously.
Do you have any other questions? If we haven't already covered them off in the FAQ section, we want to hear from you!
Risks and challenges
We mentioned earlier that our human is an above average project manager and by day she works in risk management. This means she understands each project comes with unique risks and challenges and that her job is to ensure these issues don't ruin the project.
The biggest issues we have identified (and planned for) are:
Unexpected delays at an external vendor, natural factors and delays in acquisition of supplies by third parties is possible. We've factored a reasonable buffer in our project timeline to counter possible scheduling risks.
That is a human resource risk. We're human. Life is tricky and sometimes throws curve balls. To counter any human resource challenges, we're knowledge sharing across a small team to keep the project on track.
Our book is shipping at the peak time of year. We've endeavoured to counter this by scheduling a November, rather than December, dispatch to meet our promise to have your book and rewards by Christmas.
In the event an issue arises, we commit to ensuring that we're transparent and keep you fully informed. We will excitedly be sharing project updates with you. If we're required to deliver news in an adjustment to the project schedule, you can be assured we will do this in a timely manner.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
