Draw the Line is a comics book project conceived in the wake of #Metoo. The premise is making an anthology book of graphic novel short stories, and also an original art exhibition.

The project came about while discussing how #Metoo might evolve further. We have gathered 17 acclaimed cartoonists, who will share their personal stories and strategies of coping in a variety of angles and styles.

The #Metoo theme will frame the stories and give them a common purpose. We want to develop comics with the power to make change and bring new perspectives – while serving as discussion support for organizations committed to gender equality and against sexual violence and harassment.

The comics medium is extremely efficient for delivering a message. The combination of text and images speaks to the reader in a strong and direct way. Graphic short stories can depict feelings and events in a much clearer manner than text only. Draw the Line will also empower victims, and give strength to talk about personal experiences.

The artists committed to Draw the line are Amalia Alvarez, Jenny Berggrund, Malin Biller, Daria Bogdanska, Karin Didring, Alice Engström, Anneli Furmark/Joanna Hellgren, Stef Gaines, Malin Granroth, Elisabeth Hallin, Elin Lucassi, Adrian Malmgren, Lisa Medin, Lina Neidestam, Malin Skogberg, Hanna Strömberg, Berit Viklund and Lisa Wool-Rim Sjöblom.

Thanks to support from Föreningen Tillsammans and NBV, plus funding from Konstnärsnämnden, Längmanska kulturfonden and Byggnads kulturstipendie, the goal is now within reach. We still need 50.000 before landing the project though. Please support.

Risks and challenges

The risks involved are that one or more of the artists or the project leaders for various reasons imaginable cannot fulfil their commitments. There could also be problems from the printing factory, delays or errors in production. The publishing house (doob förlag) could also go bankrupt before the money is collected.
