If it doesn't taste AWESOME, what's the point? The focus at Batch Bakeshop is crafting delicious baked goods. That means using high-quality ingredients (made from real food!), focusing on local and seasonal flavors, and perfecting time-tested recipes to achieve that irresistible balance of sweet and savory.
Batch Bakeshop began in the spring of 2011 when Mika had the opportunity to take her years of baking experience & passion for delicious, small-batch, high-quality treats and turn it into a wholesale business. Spokanites can currently find Batch baked goods at a handful of beloved Spokane coffee shops and restaurants. In addition, Batch has been a part of the fantastic Thursday Market on South Perry Street for 2 years. We couldn't be more honored by all the fans & friends we've made at the Market!
Starting as a wholesale-only business has allowed Batch to start small and grow quickly. Batch Bakeshop will always be a small-batch bakery but even a tiny bakeshop needs, well, a bakeshop. It's time to move out of the shared commercial kitchen space where Batch was born and raised, and into a REAL LIVE BAKESHOP!!! Batch will become a place you can actually come and visit. Have some coffee or tea with your treat. And the extra space (and perhaps even more importantly--the extra time available in a kitchen dedicated solely to Batch) will allow for an expanded menu of awesome (donuts, anyone?) as well as make it possible for us to keep up with the growing demand for Batch Bakeshop goodies.
Wedding and event dessert catering has been a part of Batch Bakeshop from the beginning, and this is where the business is really busting at the seams and begging for more kitchen space. Three summers of making cakes, cupcakes, and tons of mini-tarts and other tiny treats for some fabulous parties, has made us nothing but excited for all the fun weddings & events ahead. But a new kitchen space before the next summer wedding season will go far in allowing us to serve more people the highest quality desserts!
All this is going to require some serious dough & that's where you come in! As a tiny, but growing, business, Batch is able to get things rolling on a new space but the cost for equipment requires some outside help. This kickstarter will fund the equipment purchases necessary to build a commercial bakery kitchen. This includes exciting and glamorous things like:
- an oven!
- sinks and faucets!
- shelving and work tables!
We've found an amazing space in West Central that we would love to have Batch call home; a place that will not only bring delicious treats to a neighborhood that needs some delicious treats but also make it easy for all of Spokane to visit Batch Bakeshop. We're already working with the fabulous owners of this great space, but pushing the beginning steps of this move into reality depends on the success of this kickstarter. Our timeline will have us finalizing plans this winter, moving into our new space in the spring of 2014, being open for you by the summer!
In addition to all of the rewards detailed at right, each and every one of our fabulous kickstarter supporters will earn a spot for their name in our Garden of Gratitude (oh, did I mention the patio you'll be able to sit on while you munch your warm-from-the-oven Salted Chocolate Chip cookie?) and a very sincere, heartfelt thank you. PLUS: that warm, fuzzy feeling you'll get knowing that YOU helped give a tiny business the boost it needed to open the doors of a fabulous neighborhood bakery.
Risks and challenges
Like we mentioned above, we've found an amazing space that we would love to have Batch call home. But of course there are always unforeseen possibilities and challenges. If we are unable for some reason to move ahead with these specific plans for this specific location, don't worry: Batch will still be moving forward on a new space in 2014. We have a solid business plan and are ready to move the business forward in this new direction. This Kickstarter, if successful will give us the flexibility to choose the best options as we navigate this move. One of the great things about Spokane is the availability of spaces where we would be happy to build a home for Batch. Thanks to the amazing and talented group of people that love Batch (including interior designers, architects, graphic designers, builders and makers, plus a handful of really strong people) we're confident that we'll be able to successfully address any and all challenges that come up during the planning and building phases of getting Batch into our own commercial space.
We'll continue to post more information about our future location on Batch bakeshop's website as details get settled. Visit batch-bakeshop.com and follow us on twitter and Facebook for all our updates.
