Wild Assent - Survive the Arena and Tame the Wilds

$332,310

Wild Assent is a 1-4 player miniatures board game with player-versus-player and solo/cooperative modes. Battle your opponents in the gladiatorial arenas of the Silvestrem in Wild Assent’s skirmish-style Arena mode. Hunt the dangerous creatures of the Wilds, by yourself or with friends, fighting not just for survival, but to keep your expedition alive in the campaign-based Hunt mode.

Regardless of the mode you choose, Wild Assent offers tactical and entertaining combat combined with strategic and interesting decisions to make before the miniatures even hit the board.

Wild Assent is the complete package. It features incredible miniatures, quality cardboard components and engaging gameplay. Its PvP skirmish and solo/cooperative survival modes offer vastly different play experiences while sharing the same fundamental combat mechanics.

The core game box for Wild Assent contains everything you need to begin your expedition into the Wilds or to crush your enemies in the gladiatorial arenas of the Silvestrem.

No adventure in either realm will be the same as the last as Wild Assent's customization options and deck mechanics ensure replayability for years to come.

Wild Assent’s Shadow of the Silvestrem expansion adds new Assents and Seekers for the players to field in both game modes as well as exciting new gameplay options to add to the variety provided by the core game.

It includes:

  •  3D terrain miniatures to replace all of the obstacle tokens for both game modes (excluding the Pits).
  •  A new type of Gladiator in the Arena mode: Mercenaries. Mercenaries are treated like Creatures, but they are more traditional humanoid Gladiators and move as squads of three.
  •  Drusus, Champion of the Silvestrem, who can be a player character in either the Arena or on the Hunt. Drusus is not an Assent; his Arena troupe must consist of only Mercenaries.
  •  Vareclea, the owner of the Silvestrem herself, Wild Assent’s first playable summoner and three of her vile Torments.
  •  Boss fights. Players can join together to take down the Fire Lord, Twin Dragon, Drusus or Vareclea in these new cooperative Arena and Hunt mode brawls.
  •  A solo prologue for the core game’s story-based campaign, showing how Zaxos, Fani, Illithena and Berlyne met and became Seekers.

To add the below items to your pledge, simply increase your pledge amount by the amount of the item you wish to add. You will be able to apply that money to your add-ons in the pledge manager after the campaign.

Wild Assent miniatures are made from a HIPS-based material that retains an amazing amount of detail from the original 3D sculpt. Each miniature is produced as a single piece, allowing for more dynamic poses, intricate bases and absolutely zero assembly.

A good number of Wild Assent miniatures have already been produced. Molds have been made and we are able to present them to you as mass production models in the video below.

Wild Assent minis are made in 32mm scale. For those who want to see what it actually means, here are some of the minis shown on size chart below. While Berlyn as a rather short human barely passes 30mm, some of the bigger creatures are easily getting over 50mm in height.

Prior to campaign launch we sent some Wild Assent production miniatures to King of Average who created a short unboxing video.

"In the shadow of the Silvestrem, you only have two real choices: either you work for the arenas, or you die within them."

- Kander, leader of the Seekers

Wild Assent offers two distinct game modes for you to choose from: the solo/cooperative Hunt and the competitive Arena. Each uses a different set of player characters and offers vastly different play experiences.

In the arenas of the Silvestrem, only the strong and cunning survive. Check out our trailer for the Arena mode above.

"Wild Assent is not a game that relies on lucky rolls like most dungeon crawler type games. It comes down to positioning, teamwork, and properly managing your resources to survive!"

- Jeremy Howard (Board Game Revolution)

And his review of the Hunt mode!

The Hunt is a 1 to 4 player cooperative campaign mode requiring multiple game sessions to complete. Each player chooses one or more upgradeable Seekers (for a total of four), to venture into the dangerous and mystical Wilds to track and capture Creatures for gold and glory. The players will maintain an Encampment, erecting useful buildings and hiring workers, to support the Seekers in their expedition. The primary goal of the Hunt is to survive 10 seasons so the Seekers may retire with their wealth. If all the Seekers fall in battle at the same time, the expedition ends and the players lose.

Tabletopia is a free board game simulator you can run from your browser (Internet Explorer seems to be the most viable option). Playing the Tabletopia edition of Wild Assent simply requires clicking the banner above and setting up your nickname. After room is created you have the option to either start the solo game or share the URL with friends to play together. Please note what is found on Tabletopia is not the final (or complete) version of Wild Assent.

Seekers are the brave men and women who scour the Wilds in search of dangerous Creatures to capture and sell at the Silvestrem’s markets. Each Seeker fills a vital role within the expedition, beginning the campaign with two unique skills and able to unlock up to five more. Seekers are used to perform tasks in the encampment as well as serve as the players’ avatars in combat. Their prowess on the hunt will be the difference between returning with captured monsters and disappearing in the Wilds forever.

Zaxos is the tank of the group of Seekers, slow and sturdy, but with a surprising amount of support skills. Fani is a short-ranged damage dealer, able to leap into and out of danger better than any other. Illithena is long range damage dealer, able to inflict more hurt than any other Seeker, but is fragile and must be protected. Finally, Berlyne is the support of the group, offering great healing and other beneficial skills, including a way for Seekers to activate out of turn.

When hunting in the Wilds, the players will first draw a Scout card (or more, depending on their Encampment) and choose where they will hunt for Creatures. The Scout card details what Creature/Threat the Seekers will definitely find along with some extra local fauna to give them a run for their money.

The Creatures of the Wilds are as diverse as they are deadly. On the Hunt, each Creature operates on instinct; a set of five cards that controls the Creatures' target and behavior. Players do not know which Creature will activate next, nor what actions they will take when they do. The Wilds is a mystical realm and it will rise to meet the Seekers’ threat. The longer the Seekers’ expedition encroaches on the Wilds, the stronger its Creatures will become.

Each creature brings a different threat to the table. The Phoenix cannot be captured until after it has been slain while the Daemonretch summons its Daemonspawn every time it activates, threatening to expel an army between it and the Seekers. The Gryphon is a free action aficionado and the the Lava Fiend punishes melee attackers with molten fury.

The Seekers’ encampment is their foothold in the Wilds. There they may recover from their last battle, craft new equipment and prepare for the next hunt. Should they manage to capture any Creatures, the Seekers can house the monsters in their encampment until they are ready to sell them at the Silvestrem.

The Seekers can also build and upgrade buildings to offer new boons and services and hire Workers to staff them. Finally, they can prepare for their next hunt, scouting the surrounding wilderness for their next dangerous prize.

Wild Assent’s Hunt mode is a fun and engaging gameplay experience that rewards careful planning and tactical decisions. Whether you play the game by yourself or with a group of friends, everyone will have something fun to do on the Hunt.

The Arena is a 2 or 4 player competitive game mode. Each player chooses an Assent, a customizable champion they will use to lead a troupe of Creatures into battle. The goal of the Arena is simple: kill or be killed. Players choose to either make slaying the enemy Assent(s) the objective of the game or wiping out the entire enemy troupe.

Assents are gifted individuals born with the rare ability to commune with the Creatures of the Wilds and command them in battle. Your Assent is the leader of your troupe and your most powerful force on the battlefield.

The Wild Assent Core Game comes with four Assents. Koralt is a ranged damage dealer with unique healing and damage skills while Yerra is an aggressive melee damage dealer who can punish adjacent enemies. Amalia is a ranged support with strong healing and control skills and Gurantev is a melee support with strong defense and healing.

Each Assent has two default skills and another two chosen from a pool of five to customize them to fit your play-style. Assents also have two pieces of equipment they can carry to add to their already impressive arsenal.

The Creatures of the Silvestrem loyally follow their Assents into battle, shielding them from harm and eviscerating their enemies. Your troupe will have several Creatures, each entering the arena with their own unique and powerful skills.

Creatures come in two sizes: medium and large. Not only are large Creatures more powerful than their medium brethren, they may also bring summons with them to the arena.

Like their kin from the Wilds, the Creatures of the Silvestrem have strengths and weaknesses. Learn to select Creatures that fill the gaps in your Assent's arsenal, and you will be racking up victories in no time.

As owner of the Silvestrem, Vareclea will often take an active role in any arena match she believes is not as entertaining as it should be. Each round you will draw one card from the Silvestrem deck to determine the effect of Vareclea’s influence. The card could detail one-off or permanent effects or quests players are rewarded for completing (or punished for failing).

Wild Assent’s Arena mode is our take on the classic skirmish board game. It brings to the genre engaging and fun customization options and equal parts certainty and randomness to ensure no two games are the same (even with the same Gladiators), but not to the point that it feels like dice matter more than strategy.

We will charge for shipping after the campaign ends via pledge manager. The final cost will vary depending on which pledge you choose and how many stretch goals are unlocked.

Wild Assent will have friendly shipping to the United States, Canada, Australia and the European Union. What does that mean? Basically, your package will ship individually from a hub within your country/region instead of crossing the border/ocean by its lonesome. Delivery to any other country may result in additional taxes or fees that will not be paid by us. We reserve the right to not deliver to certain countries including North Korea and Narnia.

Lazy Squire Games has a small history of providing strong support to other companies for their Kickstarter endeavors, including the Starfinder Masterclass Miniatures and Sonic the Hedgehog: Battle Racers campaigns.

Games are our passion and we’re looking to make a name for ourselves by creating our own games as well. We've worked on Wild Assent for more than two years, and hope it is only the first of many interesting and fun card and board games we release that players will want to return to again and again.

Should you decide to pledge for Wild Assent, we want you to be sure we've planned the entire fulfillment from the last day of the campaign all the way to the day the box is delivered to your door. There's little fun to be had for either of us if you get your game later than we said you would, so we're going to do our best to avoid that.

Development (5 months): Wild Assent's core game is complete and many of the expansion and stretch goals are in some form of design or testing. However, there's still plenty to finish. We hope to rely on community feedback to polish Wild Assent as much as possible so the final product shipped to your door is the best game it can be. This will also be the time for the rest of the miniatures to be sculpted and printed as well as finalizing every step of the production process.

Manufacturing (5 months): Mass production starts and ends here, though there will likely still be time for last-minute game balancing tweaks before we send the rulebooks and the rest of the printed components off to the printer.

Delivery (4 months): We're a small company and want to make sure we've allocated adequate time to ship as many boxes as we need. We've added a buffer here for that (we've actually added a buffer to all three categories) as no Kickstarter is ever perfect and nothing ever goes 100% according to plan.

Risks and challenges

Placing your hard-earned cash with an essentially no-name company is always a risk, but we’ve done our best to show that we have every intention of making Wild Assent a reality. We've tried to put extra polish on everything we've done for the game, investing our own money in 3D sculpting, prototypes and miniature prints so that potential backers can see the game we've had in our minds for two years.

Shipping is perhaps the greatest concern, but it should be ours, not yours. We've had firsthand experience with shipping, observing how companies we worked with deliver their own games, and we are confident we will be able to avoid any serious pitfalls.

The Final Product
Both of Wild Assent’s game modes are complete and tested, with most of the art, sculpts and other assets already done. Revisions are still possible, however. Public testing may lead to rules changes/updates, art may be replaced and even sculpts may be modified to ensure mass production goes off without issue. By pledging for this project (or any project on Kickstarter), you are recognizing that nothing is final until the finished product is waiting for you on your doorstep.

Refunds
Backers will be able to get a full refund up to 60 days following the end of the campaign. After that, any refund will be minus any Kickstarter/banking fees incurred by Lazy Squire Games after Kickstarter transfers the money (10%-15%). We will announce once Wild Assent has gone into full production; no refunds will be possible after the date of the announcement.
