About this project
Who hasn't been to a music concert and came away thrilled, at least once? This book will tell a story in photographs of the fan music experience.
This project is to create a digital book telling the story of a fictional fan's concert experiences. By using a fictional character's point of view, creative opportunities open up to make the book humorous, entertaining, and story like.
A select number of backers will be allowed to contribute a photo which will become a part of the book. The rest of the photos will be from my camera, captured from my point of view in the crowd.
Funding will go towards covering the publishing and development costs.
The book will be published digitally and made for sale to the public. The book will be of shorter length, likely between 30-50 pages.
I, the author, will be selecting which artists can be included. Funders create the book along with me by contributing one photo regarding a concert experience of the following musicians:
- Kanye West
- Katy Perry
- Norah Jones
- Bruce Springsteen
- Thievery Corporation
- Britney Spears
A small amount of text will be added. A written description of the concert atmosphere will go along with the photos. Any interview or quotes obtainable from the artists themselves in the research process will also go into the book.
The goal is to include photos of as many different concerts as possible and to place emphasis on photos. The number of pages devoted to each artist will be modest, within the two to five page range.
Photos submitted by backers must be suitable for readers of all ages to view. The photo must be related to the concert experience to the named artist. Inappropriate photos will be rejected, as the book is meant for all ages. Photos that are libel, poor representations, or unflattering will not be utilized in the book.
The goal is to portray a positive fan experience and offer a flattering representations of the selected musicians. The book is meant to convey a good time - and good memories.
Funders are not required to contribute a photo. Contributing a photo is optional.
The electronic book will be made available on digital book platforms that approve the book for sale.
Risks and challenges
Determining the length of the book is a current challenge. Most of the photos have been acquired. Adding additional artists will require more concert attendance, which puts the size of the book in pages at risk. If only a three to ten photos of each performance are included, the book will be between 30-50 pages. The book will be offered at fair price reflective of the size of the book.
Because Kickstarter backers are allowed to contribute content, content must be carefully screened for appropriateness and relevance. There is risk that a backer contributes content that is inappropriate. In that event, the backers content will not be included in the book.
If any content is subject to legal concerns, the content may be removed from the published book. Or the photo may be anonymized to not represent the artist's likeness. For example, a photo of a musician may have a giant yellow smiley face to anonymize the photo, if required to mitigate risk.
To further mitigate risk, quality photos that convey a positive experience will be used. Further, photos that contain trademarks or copyrights will be examined and could be removed to keep the project in good standing.
Artists representatives will be contacted with requests for content for the book, such as a quote that could used. Any direct content from the musician's themselves will decrease risk of project failure.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
