Welcome to HSD 2.0, the second edition of the HC SVNT DRACONES tabletop role playing game. After nearly 5 years on the market, HSD is ready for an overhaul. Fresh rules and adjustments based on years of feedback from players, a clean look and layout that benefits from the experience of the two additional hardcover books built for HSD between its birth and now, new ideas and philosophies that draw on what players did and didn't like about first edition, all this and more has been integrated into this full system rebuild. For new and returning players alike, this is a fun and exciting new horizon for HSD.
HC SVNT DRACONES is a tabletop role playing game about the races that inhabit Sol after humanity passes. It explores themes of genetic manipulation, astral horror, sentient AI, and good ol' fashioned space adventure, in an environment that lends itself to mag-lev train heists as readily as it does supernatural survival. Its character options are myriad, and its class-less system allows you to build your character your way, and grow them over time.
Vectors span the solar system from Mars to Venus to the moons of Jupiter. Their biological spectrum includes dozens of different animal species from Earth, as well as a whole host of mutations that cropped up during on of the stages of their initial development and have remained keyed in their genepool. Cogs, thinking and feeling mechanical lifeforms, supplement their numbers. Together their culture is run by massive corporate structures that take the place of traditional government, hiding horror and treachery behind a veil of benevolence. Beauty can be purchased. Strength is an investment in hardware. Integrity is good marketing. And hiding just outside the borders of the flashing lights and busy lives of the children of humanity lurks a new threat that Sol is far from ready to cope with. Each encounter assembles pieces of the puzzle that is the fall of Earth, and what it is to live on the edges of the map.

HSD2's system combines a simple two dice+score roll with a comparison that matches your character's abilities to the difficulty of the task at hand. This allows the system to vary the success rate of a roll to show how tough it is without changing the target number that needs to be hit. Players always know what they're trying to reach and can use their abilities and die-manipulation mechanics without feeling like they're being baited or fooled.
HSD2's character generation system uses a shape and mass descriptor to help represent the look and feel of your character and how it affects your overall presence in a scene, both in and out of combat. This setting has an amazing array of possible body types, from a 6" tall biped to a 800lb taur, and more. Your design decisions go beyond mere appearance, and you can tweak them through custom points to really narrow down how you want the character to play.
Pick a Family and Species for your Vector or Cog to establish a baseline appearance. Refine it further with a morphism or frame, which open up a variety of unique body types beyond simple bipedalism. Your durability, movement, and other scores will adjust with your choices, and you can push them further in different directions through customization. The system does it all very simply, and you're left with a character that feels accurate in play to what you saw in your head.
HSD2's classless system uses stat modifiers and abilities to allow you to build a unique and functional character with dozens of fun and powerful abilities, physically, mentally, and socially, without having to conform to any specific archetype. The character progression chart lets you do it while keeping the feeling of achievement that comes from incremental experience gain. The enormous inventory of weapons, items, armor, surgical modifications, and personal quirks means that you can build outward in a variety of different directions and always find a way to improve your character at whatever they're trying to do.

Risks and challenges
Challenge: The book won't be made
This is a very low risk. HSD has had three successfully funded hardcover supplements and each of them have been completed and successfully distributed to backers. Baring some sort of completely unforeseen catastrophe, the book will be completed and distributed as planned. The majority of it is already written, and it has been undergoing rigorous test play by multiple groups for months now. You can even watch us weekly at https://www.twitch.tv/hsd_tv .
