Bluetooth Technology Defense for Food Allergy Kids
Allergy parents all know the feeling.
Fear. Anxiety. Jitters.
It’s the feeling we get when we let our children out of the house to go on a playdate, to a party, or even to school or camp. We’ve created an allergy-safe environment at home, but who knows what can happen when they’re on their own?
We were determined to find a way to arm our kids with constant, proactive protection to help them avoid allergic reactions wherever they may be.
Introducing AllerGuarder - the first and only Bluetooth wristband that sends constant alerts to app-users nearby about your child’s food allergies. Utilizing an ultra-low frequency Bluetooth transmitter, AllerGuarder is like a protective beacon that reminds others to be vigilant and careful about the food your child eats and is exposed to.
The AllerGuarder Solution: Vigilance and Awareness
The AllerGuarder wristband is simple yet ingenious.
Using your smartphone (Android or iOS), you input your child's allergies and how they are triggered – airborne, ingestion, or contact. By granting your trusted friends special access they can identify your child and view contact and emergency information.
Once it is set, urge all those who may come in contact with your child to download the alert app. It is completely free, and very simple to use. After their smartphone is equipped with the app, it will automatically receive an alert when your child is nearby, reminding them to stay vigilant and aware.
Your friends and family want to help keep your child safe. They certainly do not want to inadvertently cause a severe allergic reaction. That is why they will gladly arm themselves with the free AllerGuarder app.
All you have to do is ask!
The key to success begins with urging friends and family to download the app, and we will help you! We have included pre-programmed messages that you can send to contacts explaining the product and encouraging them to get the app. Each person that has the free app on their phone adds another layer of protection for your child.
AllerGuarder creates a virtual safe zone around your child. The Bluetooth transmitter will broadcast an alert to all AllerGuarder app-enabled smartphones within about a 50 foot radius. People in the Safe Zone will be alerted and reminded of your child's presence and allergies when he or she is nearby.
AllerGuarder is safe, secure, and private
Your child’s identity is protected from strangers. Only those you choose as Trusted Friends get to see detailed personal or medical information. Everyone else receives a simple anonymous alert telling them that a food allergy sufferer is in their vicinity. Name or personal information is NEVER accessible by strangers using the app.
While no device can claim complete protection, AllerGuarder provides a strong layer of defense in the daily situations where your child is most vulnerable. Remember, most of the food that your child eats comes from people that you know, like neighbors, relatives, and friends. As soon as they’ve got the app on their smartphones, you’ve created a safety bubble that will follow your child through most of his or her daily routine.
As food allergy parents continue to purchase AllerGuarder wristbands and the AllerGuarder story spreads, more and more circles of friends and families and other concerned people will download the free app—and we’ll get closer to our goal of a global layer of protection with millions of users around the world!
Your Child Will Love AllerGuarder
The AllerGuarder wristband was designed with comfort and style in mind. Available in 5 colors, the band is made of hypo-allergenic silicone and can be worn 24/7. Its material is conveniently designed to be washed with warm water. Discreetly hidden inside is a ultra low-frequency Bluetooth transmitter and battery with an amazing six month lifespan. Just switch the battery when you replace your smoke detector batteries every six months! The compartment opens easily with a standard screwdriver and the battery is a standard watch battery that can be found in most convenience stores.
We created AllerGuarder because food allergy kids are always at risk.
It all started with a text message from our children’s pediatrician.
Two of our beautiful kids have peanut and tree nut allergies, and we had recently brought them in to be retested. A substantial amount of time had passed since their last tests and we were hopeful that these results would show some promise.
That text from the pediatrician was a rude awakening. Their allergies had gotten worse.
Understanding that we were now in the battle for the long haul, we immediately changed our focus to prevention. Our passion became protecting our kids from contact with the foods that they are allergic to, wherever they may be.
What keeps us up at night? Just like other allergy parents, we know our kids would never knowingly eat a peanut. But we also know that too many people do not understand food allergies and do not appreciate that even the smallest amount of an allergen might cause disastrous results.
The chocolate with hazelnuts at a relative’s house, the birthday cake with traces of almonds at a birthday party, the peanut butter cookies at a friend’s house—these things petrify us! In fact, our daughter recently had an allergic reaction at a playdate when she was accidentally given peanut butter cookies.
AllerGuarder was born out of necessity
For food allergy kids to be safe we need to prevent allergic reactions by raising the awareness of those around them. There is no effective allergy warning system on the market…so we invented it.
We are just like you...
We are a caring and dedicated team of moms, dads, and technologists who are deeply affected by today’s food allergy problem. We either have food allergies ourselves, have kids with food allergies, or have relatives and close friends with food allergies.
We created AllerGuarder.

Risks and challenges
We have assembled an amazing team of engineers, designers, manufacturers, and software coders to make AllerGuarder a reality. The project has moved at a remarkable pace and everything is in place for July 2016 delivery of the first wristbands.
As with all products of this nature, unforeseen obstacles may arise in the actual production or shipping of the wristbands, but we’ve carefully selected reliable and talented people to get the job done.
Currently, the app is almost complete, and manufacturing, operations, and logistics plans are in place. In the unlikely event of delays we will work tenaciously to deliver the product in a timely fashion.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
