About this project
Thank you to everyone who contributed to our project. In the final 48 hours of our project we'd like to stretch our goal out to $16,300. The additional $1300 helps to cover the fees taken out of our total so that the budget will be closer to the original $15,000 we intended.
Read the Script
To give you a better idea of what the movie will be we have decided to make the script available for you read.
About the Story
Love is a complicated enough, but it’s made even more complicated when the target of your heart is also a target. Two contract killers engage in a deadly game of cat and mouse that only serves to cover a flirtatious love affair.
It’s an age old story. Boy meets Girl. Girl poisons Boy. Boy shoots Girl with a sniper rifle. Girl stabs Boy in the chest. Boy locks Girl in a warehouse with a bomb and a dead body.
About the Project
With guns, knives and explosions, Early Retirement is clearly an action film, but it’s not just an action film. Even if you've never taken a contract out on someone’s life, Early Retirement has a universal theme that everyone can relate to - trying to make a connection with another person. And like most of us, the characters in this film are just getting in their own way.
However that’s not to say the action is taken lightly. This short film is about two serious people with serious skills, so when they go after each other, the danger is real. The end product will work on many levels, satisfying discerning action fans and romantic drama fans alike.
About the Production Team
Benchwarmer Production – This will be the third short film produced by Benchwarmer, following Misusing Irony and The Distance Between. You can learn more about Benchwarmer and view both of the award winning short films at www.benchwarmerproduction.com

(As a production schedule has not been finalized, Justin’s involvement is subject to availability.)

Why such a high budget?
Early Retirement is an ambitious action short film that includes fights, weapons, and a climactic explosion. All of which comes with their own challenges. Safety is paramount. We could produce this script for less money than we are looking for, but it would result in a very dangerous, unprofessional production which is something everyone involved would like to avoid. Your contribution will go towards stunt professionals and safety experts to produce this film above board.
Why a short film?
Given the recent popularity and success of shorts like the Marvel One Shots, the team behind Early Retirement feel this is a great time for short films. They’re also a great way to get noticed professionally.
A short film gives everyone involved an opportunity to highlight a specific area that can’t always be done in a longer project. It allows you the opportunity to step outside what you normally do in a relatively consequence-free environment.
Once finished, a short film is also easier to present to people if you want them to see you in a specific way. And while everyone involved in this project has had success in their individual careers, this project will serve to show that we are capable of moving to the next level.
That being said, our primary goal will always be your entertainment, because while we may desire career advancement we know the only way that is possible is by providing you with the most kick-butt short film possible.
Thank you for taking the time to view our project and please consider contributing!

Risks and challenges
What some people might call a challenge we recognize as the normal filmmaking process. There is no point A to point B when making a film. Every step is about circumventing problems. Not problems that might be part of the production, but problems that will be part of the production. As professionals, everyone that is a part of this crew handles this every day on the job.
Right now our goal is to start production in early summer, however without the funding that this campaign is set up to raise we cannot start setting dates to shoot. Therefore we cannot guarantee a date of delivery on a completed product. After the actual shooting process there are still many long steps to complete the film like editing, sound mixing & digital effects. Beyond that putting together the bonus material to make the DVD or Blu Ray worth your contribution.
Whether or not we are able to start with our proposed schedule depends on you. As you can see above, the key positions have been filled as well as some important crew positions. At this point we need the funds from this Kickstarter campaign to move forward with securing locations and finalizing schedules.
That being said we can tell you that this is our second Kickstarter campaign. The first was successfully funded, completed and all rewards were fulfilled.
All the money from this Kickstarter campaign will go toward pre- and post-production costs, including camera rental, lights, sound equipment, wardrobe & makeup, food, stunt coordinators, hard drives, sound mixing, and color correction. We need you to make this happen!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
