This film will tell the story of those suffering from Electromagnetic Hypersensitivity in Green Bank, West Virginia.
Meet Jennifer Woods. Jennifer was on death’s door, just 80 pounds when she first showed up to Green Bank. She is part of a growing migration into the small rural West Virginian town. These immigrants all have one thing in common: an aversion to electromagnetic radiation -- exposure to radio waves, caused by technology like cell phones and WiFi, will trigger a wide range of symptoms including headaches nausea, skin tingling, tinnitus, and fatigue. When Jennifer first connected her weight loss to her electromagnetic hypersensitivity (EHS), she turned to her doctors for help. However she was repeatedly laughed out of hospitals, told that her condition was an delusion. EHS is not officially recognized as a diagnosis in the United States. Labeled ‘crazy’, Jennifer was forced to search for treatment herself. Finally, she found peace in West Virginia.
Green Bank has emerged as a sort of refuge for EHS sufferers for one reason: the Green Bank Telescope, the world’s largest steerable object. Due to its extreme sensitivity, the FCC has banned all radio-technology in a 10-mile radius in order to prevent interference with its delicate mechanics, inadvertently creating the perfect environment for people like Jennifer. The area is known as the National Radio Quiet Zone, the only area like it in the country. Since 2008, nearly 30 electro-sensitives have settled in the tightly knit town forming their own community. The new influx has caused a stir in Green Bank. While most have accepted their new neighbors, some have begun to doubt the legitimacy of the condition.
This film will explore the dynamics of this changing community and the experience of living with a debated illness.
Riesgos y desafíos
Making movies is fun. Making movies is expensive. Though I've already completed shooting for the project, I am asking for your support to help this story live up to its potential. I'll still need to bring a colorist, sound designer, graphic designer, and composer on board. With your help, I will have all the funds in place to hire a dream team. All this will need to be completed before the April 26th premiere. As the film has a strict deadline, I will continue to work up until the big night to finalize the cut. Many all-nighters lie ahead. If nothing else, please help me buy coffee.Más información sobre el concepto de responsabilidad en Kickstarter
