The Americas Team Championship will be an annual Warmachine and Hordes team tournament held in the Milwaukee, WI area. The tournament will be run in a nearly identical format as the World Team Championship. Teams from any North or South American country, as well as from any of their provinces, territories, or holdings will be welcome. In addition, there will be a solo Masters tournament held at the event, with the same player territorial restrictions. Not only will the winning individual and team have trophies and international bragging rights, but if they are United States citizens or nationals they will earn the right to represent the USA at the World Team Championship.
This existence of an event like this has been discussed by various people in the Warmachine and Hordes community for years, and we’re finally making it happen, but we need your help! The annual expenses, such as rental of the location, tables and chairs, Steamroller packets, etc. will be covered by entry fees. The costs and fees will balance and allow the event to be self-sustaining. That said, there are massive initial costs that we need your help to cover. 192 chess clocks is $6,000. 192 sets of Steamroller scenario zones and terrain would retail for a total of nearly $16,000 but we've found a provider who will get them to us for only $5,000 total. 192 4’x4’ table mats can be gotten for $2,500 if we're willing to do a little trimming ourselves to keep costs down. All total that ends up being an initial investment of $13,500. This is simply too high of an investment to fund through entry fees alone. In order to cover all of it we'd have to charge a prohibitively high cost, and the event would most likely be dead out of the gate. So we're turning to the community at large, through Kickstarter, to raise the funds needed to break through that wall.
So what do you get out of this? Many of you reading this probably have experience backing board games or video games on Kickstarter. With those, you often can pledge $50 and receive a $50 product in return, meaning that it’s at worst a glorified pre-order, and once you factor in stretch goals and Kickstarter exclusive backer rewards you might even profit in the deal. Well, to be blunt, this isn’t one of those cases. This is a fundraiser for a non-profit community event; we aren’t a company selling a product and we aren’t turning a profit here. Now, that doesn’t mean you’re getting nothing for your generosity. In addition to getting to be a part of making a community dream a reality, you also get some more tangible returns in the form of the various rewards we’re offering. All of the rewards are going to be Kickstarter exclusives and will never be available again. In addition, every reward will feature the ATC logo, which is being designed by the incredible Florian Stitz. Examples of his work can be seen here: http://www.florianstitz.de/gallery.html. Lastly, because this is a non-profit project with a very specific list of needs it means that if we actually raise enough money to cover all of the initial expenses we’ll be able to pay any funding right back to the supporters in the form of additional rewards. Every last penny raised will go to expenses and rewards; not a single cent is staying in our pockets.
First milestone achieved; We have hit our initial funding goal! Words can't express how extremely touched we are by the outpouring of support for you guys and gals in the community. It means so much to us to know we have your support in making this event happen, not just financially but emotionally.
Now's no time to slow down, however. While the money we've raised so far is a massive achievement there are still oh so many expenses to account for. We need to keep pushing to put as big a dent into them as we can. Make sure you're spreading the word to others in your gaming group about this event, so they can help out as well. To help show our appreciation and make your generosity worthwhile we've figured out some stretch goals! As we reach the indicated levels we'll include the appropriate swag with any $250 or higher pledge.
- At $6,000 dollars we'll be able to include two custom pint glasses featuring the ATC logo. That's right, not one but two. Gaming is a social event, after all, and you wouldn't want to drink alone.
- At $7,000 we'll include a pair each of large, medium, and small bases featuring the ATC logo. Use them as wreck markers, objectives, flags, proxy bases, or whatever; we won't tell you how to live your life.
- At $8,000 we'll include a set of Steamroller zones featuring the ATC logo. You'll never have to use a crudely cut out piece of dollar store shelf liner again!
So let's keep spreading the word, because there's still plenty of time to make this event the best it can be!
Risks and challenges
There shouldn't be any risks or obstacles to the event. We know exactly what materials we need and how to get them. The absolutely worst case scenario is that we have to reduce the player/team cap for the first year to match the supplies we can afford, and then use the entry fees to buy more supplies for the following year and grow that way.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
