About this project
The average research lab is in complete disarray. Broken glassware, strewn papers, and random clutter litter every inch of counter top. Instrument reservations are unheard of and lab materials are fought for every day. Innovative and fast-moving research can not be performed under such circumstances.
LaBaHoLiC (Lanthanum, Barium, Holmium, Lithium, Carbon) will streamline lab operations by offering an all-in-one package to manage: instrument reservations, protocols, inventory, research projects, maintenance responsibilities, literature searches, data sharing, and more. When all the pertinent data is at a researcher's fingertips, the potential for breakthrough is high.
This project has a funding goal of $2500, which will allow for the development and finalization of the LaBaHoLiC software package. This money will cover the cost of a hosting server, costs associated with development and distribution (including legal costs), and a few energy drinks. The $2500 goal does not include a stipend for myself.
If the project is funded for more than $10,000, I will release the software completely open source with the MIT license, which would allow anybody to freely change and modify the code to suit their needs. Otherwise, a more restrictive license will be used. Concerning the rewards - if you achieve a tier you will receive all rewards below that tier as well.
Progress and Sample Screenshots
Currently, the LaBaHoLiC software package is approximately 40% complete. The following screenshots show the progress so far as well as how innovative and useful this package will be:
If you are working in or have worked in a research environment, you probably know that this software is sorely needed. If you haven't experienced a research lab, I am sure you can understand how important it is that the researchers spending your tax dollars stay organized and efficient.
Whatever you can give helps enormously. If you can not give monetarily please spread the word to your friends. Without your support this project may never make it off the ground.
A note about the rewards: if you back the project for a given amount (say $100), you will receive all the rewards below that threshold as well.
This is a web-based application, so any computer that can load a web page should be able to run the program.
If the funding is greater than $10,000, the MIt license. Otherwise probably the AGPLv3.
