Spek - The Secure Password Entry Keypad.
Frustrated with the number of complex passwords you have to remember in the rapidly expanding technological world? The Spek Keypad is the solution!
Spek plugs into your computer via the USB port and appears to the computer as an additional keyboard. But, when you press a single key on Spek, a complex sequence of characters is sent to the computer. This sequence is different for every key on every keypad.
This means that passwords you create using your Spek require only a few keystrokes (2, 3 or however many you like) and generate long complex passwords that are unique to your very own Spek.
For example, if you hit the keys 2, 8, 9 on Spek corresponding to the letters B-U-Y, Spek could send a password such as H8*b1Q0F$x9I@!2 to your computer. This would be ideal for an e-commerce site.

Two Layers of Security - To generate the correct password, you need both the correct Spek, and the correct code. This makes it very difficult for anyone to steal your passwords.
Security - Because it is a physical device, Spek is much more secure than storing your password on an online password manager.
Portability - Spek easily fits in the palm of your hand. It can go wherever you go.
How does Spek differ from other devices out there? Many other mechanisms allow you to store your passwords on a device separate from your computer, within your browser, or in the cloud, but you are still dependent on their security mechanisms. Also, if you lose access to these mechanisms, your passwords are lost. Spek offers two layers of security. Only you know your combination of characters necessary to generate the password for a given application. In addition, only your Spek can generate those combinations in response to your input.
Spek is an electronic device. Therefore, the upfront costs to get it into production are substantial. In order to manufacture Spek, we require plastic molds, electronic circuit board manufacturing/testing, software development and regulatory testing. We've made working prototypes, but we need volume to bring it to you at a fair price.
We envision different versions of Spek. For example, an office pack of Speks could be provided that are all programmed with the same key combinations. Then, for example, when colleagues within an organization need to access a shared account, they can all do it from their own desk.

Risks and challenges
There are a few regulatory and technical hurdles we must overcome. These include:
FCC certification: Because Spek is an electronic device, It requires certification before it can be sold. This is a fairly simple process, but requires money.
Randomization algorithm: Each Spek will be have its own unique set of characters. In order for it to be secure, we'll create an electronic circuit and software to generate random character sequences for each Spek. This system will be separate from any connection to the Internet to ensure every Spek receives a secret set of unique character sequences for each key.
Manufacturing setup: As described above, Spek is an electronic device requiring significant effort in initial setup for manufacturing. Our team has the experience in electronics manufacturing to make this happen.
