This project is the result of two things: one, my rather unhealthy obsession with Spencerian* script; and two, people asking me for prints of other Spencerian projects I've done in the past.
For "Less is More" I figured that, instead of pooping out cheap digital prints, it would be awesomer to print something the way it should be printed - lithography, incredible paper, and possibly some kind of crazy ink to make the thing over-the-top but in a good way.
That may seem a little open-ended, but I want to work with the printer to figure out how to make this printed piece as good as it can be. I'm a strong believer in expertise, and I'm going to use all of the printer's expertise to come up with something better than I could've on my own. I'll keep everyone posted on the options and decisions via video, here on the Kickstarter site.
The money is going to be spent, as is usual with all Spencerian script letterers, to keep the champagne in my Jacuzzi at a comfortable temperature (it's not the champagne so much as it is the heating bills that'll kill you). Except that actually, the money is going to go into the printing.
*What is this Spencerian thing? Basically, it's hundreds of hours of drawing and revising on tracing paper until you've got your design down. Then it's scores of hours of unbelievably tedious "inking" with the computer. That's how I do it, but it has a long tradition among calligraphers, handwriting enthusiasts, engravers, and typographers - each with his own approach.
