F**k. The Game is a new card game for ages 18+ that combines science and swearing to create a fun and unique new game.
It makes use of a psychological effect (The Stroop Effect) that delays the brains response to a simple question. In contrast to this it also makes use of swear words that take almost no time to blurt out (think stubbing your toe for example).
Mix in peer pressure along with some amusing and well developed rules, and you have a really fun, unique, strategic and challenging new game.
What to expect:
- Have fun swearing at your friends while becoming smarter in the process.
- Take one step closer to lasting friendships using our patented pointing technique.
- Brain training side effects.
- Laugh at other peoples mistakes.
- Enjoy the therapeutic benefits of swearing in a safe and friendly environment.
- 60 Playing Cards
- 3 Instructional Cards
How to play:
What is the difference between the collectors edition and new high quality deck?
In order to see how well the game worked, I printed only 500 copies of the first collectors edition deck. Although this deck is great it has not been made by the large card printing manufacturers. Therefore its main flaw is it is not water resistant. I should also mention that my family and I hand packed each deck. It took a long time : ) Here is a picture of the dining table we used to sort the decks.
The new high quality deck will be printed by one of the big playing card companies so it will be water resistant and feel like quality playing cards you are used to.
The original rules work great and will always be the standard way to play. However as with normal playing cards there are many ways to make a different game from the same cards. Many people have already suggested great ideas to add their own twist on the game. I therefore want to make a user forum on www.f--kthegame.com where you are able to post your own rules. These rules can be voted on by others and categorised into different lists creating a great community and endless ways to enjoy F**k. The Game.
If this goal is reached each new deck will upgraded to recyclable PVC plastic. Making the cards 100% water proof and also includes a very stylish matt sheen printed finish.
The 3 Instruction Cards
It is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED when playing for the first time that you do the Quick Start/Warm Up. Why? This is because after extensive testing it is the easiest and most fun to get your head around the rules. It is also highly recommended to do before or just as you start drinking (if your playing it as a drinking game).
The Story of How F**k. The Game came to be:
I have always been fascinated with the power swear words seem to have. To some people they are incredibly offensive and to others part of their every day vocabulary. Its always amusing seeing a non english speaking person learn and say an english swear word for the first time.
They love the reaction the word can evoke. It is never said with any malice and takes it away from the negative connotations it is normally associated with. It is almost as if they have discovered a magical power. I believe swearing is only offensive when it is said with intent.
In 2014 I was reminded of this while watching a Stephen Fry documentary (Frys Planet Word) where he and Brian Blessed were doing a brain test (Stroop Test) on a laptop. The test involved saying the colour of the word, not the actual word. For example the word reads “Red” but was coloured blue, so the correct answer was blue. The brain reads the word “Red” and thinks of the colour red. It then tries to determine the actual colour of the text and therefore takes longer to answer correctly. However, on “Frys Planet Word” they add in the coloured words “Pussy”, “Cock”, “Whore”, “Fuck” etc. This is when I started to get interested as both Stephen and Brian struggled to say the colours and could only say the words. This brought them to tears with laughter and i knew there was something there.
A few days later I was given a card game as a gift. I enjoy playing poker but I don’t play card games very often. The game included a high level of peer pressure. You didn't want to screw up because if you did the whole group tormented the loser. This was done in good nature and made the game really fun and very social. I forgot how great card games can be and how all age ranges can be involved.
Online games can be great but nothing beats having the other people in the same room, especially when they are being ridiculed. I decided then that the two ideas would be perfect in a card game and being a graphic designer I had all the skills to make it happen. After months of testing I found various problems which needed to be addressed. Things like the right ratio of colours to swear words and the right colours to contrast for poor lighting conditions.
There was also a lot of time put into getting the rules just right. I know many people will want to play it as a drinking game so it needed to be easy to learn but also have enough rules to make great gameplay. I didn’t want it to be fad game people play just once, it needed to be a fun challenge that you want to come back to.
The first prototype version has got in the hands of a small few and I am really enjoying hearing how much fun people are having playing it. It feels great knowing people are socialising and enjoying themselves from something I've created and I cant wait for the whole world to experience the game.
As part of the final testing stage of development, I went out and demonstrated the game to hundreds of strangers. People enjoyed it even more than imagined. Here are a few photos.
Spread the word
I am a one man operation trying to get this game out into the world. Any help in spreading the word is greatly appreciated!

Risks and challenges
There should be very little risk associated with this campaign. 500 copies of the collectors edition (the first prototype) have already been made. The printing and distribution for the new high quality version has been booked and is ready to go. If there is any risk it will be in shipping delays however i have allowed a reasonable time frame to factor this in. I will do everything i can to get the game to you sooner than is stated :)Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
