LOVECRAFT: FEAR OF THE UNKNOWN
Howard Phillips Lovecraft was the forefather of modern horror, having created the Cthulhu mythos and inspired countless artists and writers. LOVECRAFT: FEAR OF THE UNKNOWN is an award-winning chronicle of his life, work and mind as told by such luminaries of dark fiction as:
Stuart Gordon (director - Edmond, Re-Animator)
Ramsey Campbell (author - The Inhabitant of the Lake)
S.T. Joshi (author/biographer - H.P. Lovecraft: A Life)
Andrew Migliore (founder - H.P. Lovecraft Film Festival)
Robert M. Price (author / editor - Crypt of Cthulhu)
LOVECRAFT originally debuted on DVD and Blu-Ray in 2008 and has been out of print for nearly 4 years. That means most people have only experienced this film on the internet or via download.… without the bonus of nearly 70 minutes of extra interviews only found on those old discs.
With your support, we will print a limited run of Blu-Ray discs. The newly authored version of LOVECRAFT will once again include the extra interviews as well as a new, immersive still gallery featuring unspeakable artwork from the documentary and our archives. You’ll be able to zoom in and explore every detail.
This new disc will be more than a collectable for die hard cultists, it will offer a deeper exploration of the most influential author of the 20th Century.

MORE ON LOVECRAFT:
The tales of H.P. Lovecraft have intrigued writers such as Stephen King, Robert Bloch and Robert E. Howard. Their influence can be seen in film (Re-animator, Hellboy, and Alien), games (The Call of Cthulhu role playing enterprise), music (Metallica, Iron Maiden) and pop culture in general.
Lovecraft’s most enduring creation was the Cthulhu mythos. This series of loosely connected stories told of the Old Ones, a race of god-like beings that lurk in the recesses of existence. There they wait for the tentacled priest Cthulhu to rise and regain dominion over the world.
With the recent publication of his collected works by The Library Of America, Lovecraft has joined Edgar Allan Poe and Ambrose Bierce as part of the nation’s literary heritage.
But what led an Old World, xenophobic gentleman to create one of literature’s most far-reaching mythologies? What attracts even the minds of the 21st century to these stories of unspeakable abominations and cosmic gods? LOVECRAFT examines these questions.LOVECRAFT: FEAR OF THE UNKNOWN premiered at the 2008 Comic-Con International Independent Film Festival where it was awarded Best Documentary Film. It was the official selection of festivals in Buenos Aires, Montreal, Portland, and Los Angeles. The documentary also aired on Australian television (ABC 1) and the Chiller Network.
Risks and challenges
LOVECRAFT: FEAR OF THE UNKNOWN was Wyrd's first documentary. Being our first film we went the traditional route of distribution usually available to independent filmmakers.
While this agreement succeeded in getting the film out into the world, clumsy and egregious handling resulted in LOVECRAFT fading from view just as people were beginning to discover it.
Streaming and pirated versions have been the chief gateway for new eyes to see our work and while we're happy people have enjoyed the film, it's only part of the experience we intended.
A Blu-Ray of LOVECRAFT is more than just the 90 minute documentary. It is almost 70 minutes of deeper interviews that further explore the author and his work. In a way, the disc is a double feature. Two volumes for the curious.
Now that Wyrd has the rights back to its film, we want to release a new disc that will offer the full experience we intended. We want it done right. That deserves the same amount of time and care we applied during the making of the film. This will be more than just a re-release. It will be a version of LOVECRAFT most have never seen.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
