About this project
We did it! We reached our goal, and MORE! 129%! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! LET'S KEEP THIS GOING! HELP SPREAD THE WORD!
Any and all of the additional pledges received beyond the stated goal of 2500 will only enhance our ability to record this album, and will be used to make the best possible record. Producing an album is VERY expensive. The more we raise, the more we can put into making the greatest and well produced album possible!! LET'S KEEP THIS GOING! All of the financial support that you provide to create and fund this project will be used in making the very best possible recording. Creating good art usually does not come cheap or easy; and we want to strive together to create something that is as GREAT and as beautiful as we can.
And the winner of Pamela's artwork IS... KEITH BRIDEAU! Thanks to everyone who entered the draw!!
How you can make this album happen!
To donate or make a pledge to fund the making of this album, it's really easy. You just have to click on the pledge button, and create a Kickstarter account. To create an account, it's really quick: Just your name, and email address and you've got one! Then you can pledge whatever amount you see fit with your credit card (every little bit, however small, is amazing and will make this project happen!). It's safe. The amount you pledge will be put on hold on your card until we raise the goal. It really is safe. Help spread the word, and let's raise the goal! : - ) If you have any problems at all, don't hesitate to contact me!
I am writer. A poor one: Financially, I mean. I write adult contemporary, children’s literature, poetry, and songs. I've been somewhat of a closet songwriter my whole life. I've probably written somewhere close to 1000 song ideas. I have some amazing and talented friends in the East coast song-writing community (Saint John, New Brunswick is a deep well for pools of talent in many areas of creativity), some of whom I've written songs with, but this is my first real attempt to branch out on my own and record an album professionally - which has been my life long dream to do.
Personal revelation: I'm much goofier than all this serious talk about romance might insinuate.
I took a Geoffrey Chaucer course a couple of years ago in University. He’s a very famous poet of the middle ages. He wrote the Canterbury Tales. In the Canterbury Tales, each tale or story gives a different perspective on love. I thought, ‘hey, I’m gonna do that in song for an entire album. Each song will be a unique perspective on romance, with reference to some of the higher themes of love from the Canterbury Tales.' I found my niche. I've been doggedly writing songs and poetry based around this theme for two years, and the rest is... well, we're currently creating history now!
The songs are my own unique and honest perspectives on the universal themes that have always existed and will always exist. You know what I mean. We all do. This is nothing new or grand, of course. People have been writing love songs for thousands of years. However, there is another level to be reached by listening to the album and paying attention to the album art, regarding another topic. Whether we actually reach this level is a whole other matter. I’ll leave that up to you to decide upon listening. That’s enough to whet the appetite. We’ll leave the rest for the listening ear.
Regarding the music itself, some of the songs will be very stripped down, singer songwriter stuff, with some simple bass, violin and back up vocals. Others will be the combined effort of a full band - bass, strings, guitar, drums, vocals, etc. Hint * My favorite instrument is the violin. Expect a great deal of it.
Immediate Influences: Leonard Cohen; The National; Nick Cave.
I’m not alone. Here are a few of my all-star cast!
Tim Davidson, at Ripple Effect Studios, will be producing the album. He’s been recording professionally for years now, and also teaches recording. A very smart, gifted man. You can find him here: http://www.remstudio.com/
Pamela Marie Pierce will be doing the artwork for the album. She’s a highly talented local artist who’s well versed in drawing honestly on the themes of love. There is a small sample of what she’ll be up to for the album near the top of the page. Here is a small sample of what she'll be up to for the album art:
You can find Pam's web pages here http://www.pamelamariepierce.com/blog/ and here https://www.facebook.com/pages/Pamela-Marie-Pierce/228879194808
Steven Doiron created the video you see at the top of this page. A big thanks to him! You can find an example of his work on a different project here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c49AbPOyLXI&feature=youtube_gdata_player
Nienke Izurieta performs and interprets Ali Leonard’s piece on the violin beautifully, as well as her own creative efforts on a handful of other songs. Nienke has been a great all around help. You can find her web pages here http://nienkeizurieta.com/ and here http://thedailyfew.tumblr.com/
I also have many TALENTED friends who are contributing to the musical side of things. These musicians are REMARKABLY gifted and generous people, some of whom are willing to work for free. I will owe the creation of this album to them as much as I will owe it to you, if you decided to become a part of making this project happen. I would not be here without them. I'm just a songwriter.
What you’d be funding by joining and creating this project with me?
Everything that has to do with recording an album:
Together, we can make it happen!!
I will post a new song with a new video (here) once a week for the next four weeks, so stay tuned!!

The Great Gatsby
The Great Gatsby Lyrics
The Great Gatsby?
Well, me too, I think we're
All in the art of
A wrong I alighted on you.
You were no Saint or
Were you... were you.
Or an angel in the dime store
I can't buy my angel a break
From the liar.
I tried my best to get them off
We danced to God Only Knows
But who did we care for?
Green trails of light
Blue blazing fire
I baby I... I baby I..
The devil.. is in your mind.
The rats, well, they eat your bones
And you let them
In again tonight
