Pyro Chemography reveals a hidden truth that surrounds us on a daily basis, exposing patterns and textures that recur in everything when observed closely. My images represent the gigantic and minuscule aspects of the Universe we live in, and I feel privileged to merely show what is already there.
The outcome of every image is largely determined by natural parameters such as temperature, chemical materials and film media used, as unexpected results challenge the wonderfully unpredictable.
What is Pyro Chemography?
After some fun initial experiments in 2002, I developed the pyro chemographic art creation process by combining the physics of painting with fire and various chemicals on photographic film and other media. The images are created without a camera and enlarged to reveal the fascinating details of organically chemical beauty.
Some of the results are reminiscent of the Hubble Space Telescope peering deep into our Universe.
Others suggest primordial life forms or microscopic details of alien worlds.
The size of the original source media ranges from standard 35mm to 4"x5" photographic film to 8"x10" electrostatic film. In some cases multiple layers of film are used to create an image. To fully appreciate the astounding details of pyro chemography, the film is scanned at very high resolution and reproduced with archival inks on museum quality paper or on c-prints.

I am self-taught in most of my disciplines and do not posses any art related degrees. I simply love art in its many forms and rely on my intuition and innate desire to create. Risks and challenges
The pyro chemographic process is not without risks and can be very dangerous. Safety glasses, proper clothing, a respirator and adequate ventilation are a must to guard against toxic chemical gases and the potentially explosive nature of the process. I have been doing this since 2002 and feel aptly prepared to continue my work and deliver the rewards on time.
