What is a prototype?

A prototype is a preliminary model of something. Projects that offer physical products need to show backers documentation of a working prototype. This gallery features photos, videos, and other visual documentation that will give backers a sense of what’s been accomplished so far and what’s left to do. Though the development process can vary for each project, these are the stages we typically see:

Proof of Concept

Explorations that test ideas and functionality.

Functional Prototype

Demonstrates the functionality of the final product, but looks different.

Appearance Prototype

Looks like the final product, but is not functional.

Design Prototype

Appearance and function match the final product, but is made with different manufacturing methods.

Production Prototype

Appearance, function, and manufacturing methods match the final product.

The Earbone has been designed and developed to be the ultimate gadget for maintaining earphones in tip top condition.

Developed over a 6 month period making numerous prototypes the final design ensures a completely universal product that can be utilized with any lightweight earphones and earbuds.

The Earbone is exceptionally lightweight and can remain on the cable at all  times.  It is also exceptionally thin. This means it can  be stored easily in a purse or wallet if you wish to remove it from the cable.

The thin design has been developed on purpose as it is the goal of Earbone to be selected by a major smartphone manufacturer to incorporate Earbones into their product packaging as a free accessory.    The Earbone can be added with no amendment to the design of the smartphone packaging.

The Earbone is made from translucent PVC so that it does not clash with any earphone cable colour.  The Earbone can also be easily printed on a promotional item for distribution - colours, patterns and text options are endless.

The Earbone has been fully tested and a first batch of 1000 have been made, distributed and fully tested.   The feedback shows that once used the Earbone becomes an essential accessory.  A large number of users have requested additional packs for friends and family.  The Earbone is ready for mass production and sales through retailers and beyond.  As shown in the attached pictures, the packaging has also been completely designed together with bar coding for easy adoption by any reseller.

Risks and challenges

All product development costs have been met and hence all new funds will be used to market the product to wider audience to secure a wider user base.

The product has been design registered with WIPO for maximum protection

Production is based on orders placed and hence inventory is not a high risk

Production costs are circa 18% of resale costs and hence there is ample profilt margin for all in the supply chain including high street /online retailers.
