About

Clikk: World's First Universal Learning Remote For Apple And Android Watch.

Why fiddle for a remote when there's a powerful computer on your wrist?

  • Control your home theater: Cable TV, Blu-Ray Player, TiVo, Home Theater Receiver, TV, Media Player.
  • Control your digital camera: Take pictures from up to 30 feet away.
  • Control your home: Lights, fans, air conditioners, and a lot more.

Touch a button on your Smartwatch. Using Bluetooth Low Energy, Clikk converts it to an infra-red (IR) remote control signal. Control almost any IR device from your wrist. Clikk is the remote that is always with you.

Simple 1-2-3 Setup

  • Press the Learn button on Clikk
  • Press a button on your old clunky remote
  • Touch the button on your Smartwatch to program

Camera control is built-in, use it out of the box. No need to learn anything.

Simple To Use

  • Place Clikk within 15 feet of your components.
  • Start controlling everything from your watch or phone, up to 30 feet away (you don't have to be in line-of-sight of Clikk, you can even be in another room).

Features

  • Universal Remote: Control almost any component that uses infra-red (which is almost all home theater devices). Clikk is not limited to home theater, you can also control fans, air conditioners, digital cameras and a lot more.
  • Universal Platform: Android Watch, Android Phone, Apple Watch and iPhone.
  • Fully customizable: Place any button anywhere, make it do anything.
  • Macros: Send out a series of IR commands with the press of one button. Example: Turn TV on, turn Blu-Ray player on, turn receiver on, change receiver input to HDMI-2, all with a single button press on your watch.
  • 200 buttons: More than you will ever need.
  • Multiple pages: Since watch screens are small, you can add as many pages as you wish and swipe to change between pages.
  • Control multiple Clikk units with one watch: Maybe one for your living room and one for your bedroom.
  • Works with Smartphones: For the times that you don't have your watch on.
  • Always available (optional): Watch app keeps running in the foreground until you dismiss it, so you don't have to dig into the menu every time. Your notifications will show up as usual, and it still tells you the time.
  • Batteries or power adapter: Run from 4 AA batteries or a power adapter.
  • Tiny: 4 in X 3 in, so you can easily place it anywhere.
  • Affordable: Only $39 for our Kickstarter backers, $49 retail.

If you have any suggestions to make Clikk more useful and friendly, please let us know in the comments section. We will be delighted to hear from you. Our goal is to make Clikk the most friendly and useable remote in history.

Technical Description:

  • Atmel Microprocessor
  • Bluetooth LE module
  • 30 feet Bluetooth LE range
  • 15 feet IR range
  • Compatible with Apple Watch, iPhone, Android Wear and Android Phones

Project Status:

Prototype hardware and software are ready and working great. Please see the video for a live demo, where an Asus Android ZenWatch controls a TiVo and a Yamaha home theater receiver, and an LG G Watch R controls a Canon digital camera. It has been tested with Blu-Ray players, TiVo, TVs, media players, home theater receivers, CD players and digital cameras.

Working Prototype
Working Prototype

Hardware: The prototype has been built using an Arduino Uno and a Bluetooth LE module, and is fully functional. The video shows the prototype pictured above in action.

Software:

  • Android Wear and Phone Apps: Prototypes are ready. Android Watch app was demonstrated in the video.
  • iPhone and Apple Watch Apps: Partially ready. Our Apple Watch app works on the simulator, but we are waiting to get our hands on an Apple Watch to show you a real demo.

Testing:

  • Compatibility: We have tested Clikk with over ten remote controls, and it has been able to learn all of their buttons and control the corresponding devices from an Asus ZenWatch and LG G Watch R (Android) correctly. Not a single failure yet.
  • Range: Clikk's IR range has been tested to be at least 15 feet. Bluetooth range seems to be limited to 20 feet, while it should have been closer to 30 feet. We feel that is because of the choice of the Bluetooth LE module. Very soon, we will be benchmarking a few more Bluetooth LE modules to find the one that gives the best range (within a cost budget).

Why do we need your support?

We have worked hard to bring a whole new meaning to remote control. We are ready to take Clikk to the next phase: Industrial design, manufacturing, testing and quality assurance. Your support will take us through these crucial stages of moving from prototype to production.

In order to hit our low price target, we need a minimum order quantity (at least 1500). Your donations will help us meet this volume target. Your backing will enable Clikk, while bringing you your own Smartwatch Universal Remote along the way.

Risks and challenges

Risk #1: Bluetooth LE Range

We were hoping that Bluetooth LE would easily cover 30 feet, but we have not seen that to be the case so far. Our range seems to be limited to 20 feet. While this is OK for most people, we believe there will be a number of people who would want a longer range. We will evaluate other Bluetooth modules for range. In case we are unable to find one that has a longer range, we may consider changing directions and use WiFi instead of Bluetooth. This could have significant repercussions: (1) WiFi consumes more battery (2) Schedule delay: A lot of work will have to be re-done. It could be a 2-3 month delay. (3). WiFi adds cost, however, it is not prohibitive and we think we can absorb the manufacturing price rise.

Risk #2: Universal Functionality

While we have not yet come across a remote that Clikk cannot learn, there are some funky IR protocols out there that are hard to learn. Therefore, we cannot guarantee that a 100% of remotes will work. Our engineering guess is that less than 1% of remotes will have an issue (if at all).

We will definitely keep you posted as and when we face these challenges and what we are doing to overcome them.

Thank you,
The Clikk team.
