We have set out to redesign the pocket watch for modern times.
Modern. Minimalist. Unisex.
Modern life can be chaotic, with endless gadgets designed to make our lives more efficient, in fact robbing us of our most valuable asset - time. We initially reach for our smartphone to tell us the time, but end up distracted in a sea of notifications vying for our attention and we end up forgetting what it was we had initially set out to do.
For us, the pocket watch was the ultimate timepiece and brings back a lot of fond memories. For me personally, I am taken back to a time in Greece where on warm summer evenings my grandfather would be on the porch rocking back and forth in his chair while effortlessly swirling his pocket watch in his hand.
The problem is that these timepieces have a lot of limitations in the modern day and as a result spend most of their time (sorry for the pun, only one we promise haha) in the dresser drawer. We have set out to solve these limitations to bring back the beauty and charm of the pocket watch.
How have we achieved this?
Problem - Antique pocket watches are heavy and bulky, averaging around 125g and 14mm thickness. This makes them difficult to fit in skinny leg jeans or many other modern clothes.
Solution - Our timepiece weighs a much lighter 60g and has a super slim 9mm design making it a pleasure to travel with. This also allows for a perfect fit in a skinny leg jean.
Problem - Antique pocket watches are lacking in many of the manufacturing techniques & materials now common today and are therefore not very water, dust and scratch resistance.
Solution - Our timepiece has benefited from the latest manufacturing techniques & high quality materials that allow for a far more functional timepiece in terms of water, dust and scratch resistance. Perfect to take exploring.
Problem - Antique pocket watch designs - while beautiful, are somewhat dated and the colour choice is limited. This means they don't go with a modern wardrobe or even with a modern 3-piece suit anymore.
Solution - Our timepiece comes in several distinct colours and with interchangeable straps - allowing you to match your timepiece with your outfit.
We are an independent fashion label making high-quality, minimalist, unisex timepieces at honest prices. We launched in May 2015 with our initial London and New York Collections.
The story behind The Paris Collection requires us to travel back in time. Jean-Antoine Lepine was a local clockmaker from Paris in the 18th Century and was the inventor of a simplified flat caliber with bridges which made it possible to produce a thinner pocket watch at the time. It is for this reason we have chosen to name our latest collection, The Paris.
Since the time of Jean-Antoine Lepine a lot has changed, in particular the watch has evolved from a time teller to a fashion statement. What better way to stand out from the crowd than by wearing a modern twist on a forgotten timepiece - The Pocket Watch!
The Paris Collection comes in 3 distinct colours each taking their name from a neighbourhood in the City of Light.
We have been working closely with our manufacturer over the past year to refine the design and materials to produce our ideal timepiece, The Paris Collection. Steve Jobs said "simple can be harder than complex" and this past year has reinforced this even further for us.
316L stainless steel means the timepiece is highly scratch resistant, very robust and extremely resistant to corrosion. This is the same material used in far more expensive luxury watch brands.
Meaning your timepiece is highly scratch resistant. This material has a hardness of 9 on the Mohs scale with diamond being the only material scoring greater in terms of hardness. This is the same material used in far more expensive luxury watch brands.
Swiss Ronda Movement 763 was chosen for The Paris Collection. Swiss movements are known for their superior quality.
Why we chose a quartz movement as opposed to mechanical:
- Quartz was the only movement that allowed for our super slim 9mm design.
- Quartz movements are more accurate at keeping time - usually retaining accuracy within a few seconds per year as opposed to most mechanical movements which have a daily rate variation of between -4 and +6 seconds.
- Mechanical movements require active wear to remain 'charged'. This can become really frustrating if you rotate wearing a few watches and constantly need to re-set the time.
- Quartz movements require minimal maintenance compared with a mechanical movement - apart from a battery change approximately every 2 years.
- Despite all these benefits quartz movements are also surprisingly less expensive and allow us to keep our prices honest.
We chose Italian leather for our straps as it is known for its' high quality and durability. In addition, Italian leather ages nicely over time.
There are a choice of 3 premium quality interchangeable straps for both men and women for our initial funding stages. The key difference between the men's and women's is the length of the chain - the women's is 38". Each is made from 316L Stainless Steel.

We also have some exciting stretch goal leather straps.
We believe a minimalist philosophy should flow through all aspects of product design, including packaging. Your Paris Collection timepiece will come in a high quality, minimalist box featuring the Wanderlust Watches logo (as pictured below).
If we hit AU$12,500 (Approx US$9,000) funding goal this will unlock the Vaugirard pocket watch with a choice of a women's or men's jet black steel chain.
If we hit AU$25,000 (Approx US$19,000) funding goal this will unlock the Le Marais pocket watch with a choice of a women's or men's gun metal grey chain.
If we hit AU$40,000 (Approx US$30,000) funding goal this will unlock the Champs-Elysees pocket watch with a choice of a women's or men's rose gold chain.
We have some really exciting stretch goals ready that we know you'll love. So keep on pledging and sharing and with your help we will be able to hit these lofty goals.
If we hit AUD$50,000 (Approx US$35,000) funding we will include FREE personal engraving on all timepieces. Given the size of the timepiece messages should be 7 letters or less.
If we hit AUD$65,000 (Approx US$50,000) funding this will unlock a choice of two premium Italian leather interchangeable straps, Jet Black & Tan. We will include one of these straps FREE with your purchase if we hit this funding goal. The steel clasp on this strap will match the colour timepiece you choose.

When it comes to producing beautiful high quality minimalistic timepieces, there are simply no shortcuts - a large portion of the production process is done by hand and the manufacturing process can take up to 60 days.
We want to say a massive thank you for stopping by to check out our project, and your help in making The Paris collection a reality.
For those who are unable to support us with a pledge we would be super grateful if you can help us by spreading the word on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook or any other social network you're on.
Risks and challenges
Risks & Challenges
In manufacturing there is always the risk that suppliers do not fulfil orders on time. However, we have a great working relationship with our manufacturer and they have years of experience so we are confident we can meet delivery timeframes. Although, just in case we have added buffers to the lead times.
The biggest potential challenge actually comes down to backer colour choice. At the end of our campaign we will send an email asking for your colour choice (based on funding stage achieved) so please look out for this email as we will need a quick response from everyone in order to meet our projected delivery timeframes. We have included buffers to try and mitigate this risk.
As we are based in Australia we can only raise funds in AUD. However, we purchase from our manufacturer in USD and so there is some level of currency risk involved with our project as well. We have tried to include a small buffer to offset this, although our top priority is to keep prices honest.
If you live outside of Australia, you will be responsible for any taxes / duties that apply. In addition, your order may be delayed by customs agents which is unfortunately outside of our control.
We will make sure to communicate frequently with you throughout our Kickstarter campaign and if there are any issues along the way we will make sure to update you as soon as we learn of these. In addition, please feel free to reach out to us at email@example.com.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
