“Food is a central activity of mankind and one of the single most significant trademarks of a culture.”
"Anna's Alaska: Off the Eaten Path" is a personal project of mine, and I'm excited to see the full vision come to life! This Kickstarter campaign is to afford the cost of film crews, travel, post-production, and other expenses associated with sharing a webseries with the world.

What is "Anna's Alaska"?
It's great food and great people, both of which come to us in unexpected ways from unexpected places. As a Native Alaskan, I have always passionately carried the torch of my heritage and culture. Now, more than ever, it's important to share it - and other amazingly diverse indigenous Alaskan cultures - with the world. This is the REAL Alaska, and the REAL people who have called this place home since "time immemorial." In a time when peoples of the world are connecting and understanding each other like never before, I believe there is value and beauty in sharing my own contribution, "Anna's Alaska"!
In this series, I'll be venturing out into the vastly diverse landscapes of rural Alaska, visiting unique friends who open their doors and share the things that define their Native Alaskan lives. Viewers can expect to see jaw-dropping scenery, eye-opening culture, and of course, plenty of mouth-watering Native Alaskan soul food using excitingly eclectic ingredients! Like I say, there's lots to eat, new friends to meet, and a generous serving of life as we know it in the Last Frontier!
When I say Native Alaskan soul food, don't think cornbread and macaroni... Think Salmon Pie and Moose Stroganoff! In this series, we'll be taking things to a new level, with dishes ranging from the familiar to the, well... not so familiar. No matter what we're serving up, you can count on having a great time when you're in my kitchen.
Just for checking out my Kickstarter page, here's a quick recipe for a favorite Native Alaskan treat!
Of course, the adventure doesn't stop there. Food is just the gateway into the amazing cultural experience that we'll share together. As a Yup'ik Eskimo, I'm excited to take you with me as we explore the many other peoples that make up the entirety of Alaska Native culture. Believe me, we've got a LOT of ground to cover... and I promise you'll enjoy every single minute!
We've Got Stretch Goals, Too!
It's simple: It takes about $10,000 to film an episode (shipping a film crew off to rural Alaska tends to get expensive). The more funds we raise, the more episodes we get to share with YOU, our backers! $20,000 ensures at least 2 episodes, $30,000 ensures at least 3 episodes, and so on. We would love to turn this project into a multi-episode series, and we need your help!
Risks and challenges
Our filming schedule falls on a time of year when uncertain weather can take momentum away from our effort. After all, it is Alaska we're talking about. With that in mind, sometimes it calls for waiting it out from an hour to a week. We acknowledge that Mother Nature has a schedule of her own, and production may have to follow suit. Rest assured, however, that our crew will keep backers updated on any circumstances, weather and otherwise, that hamper our ability to make an awesome series!
In order to provide awesome worthwhile rewards for our valuable backers, we've recruited a top-flight Alaskan agency, Beacon Media + Marketing to curate and create the goodies Anna can't wait to send you! We'll be working in close collaboration with them to ensure the highest quality of your rewards, as well as the most proper and efficient methods of delivery!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
