Below is a 5:39 tutorial video that shows five game scenarios:

$3 and $60 Backers: Along with the board & rules file, you'll also receive the .stl file that will allow you to 3D print the two tokens (boat & shark fin) for the game! On display is what I had Shapeways.com print using their"strong flexible plastic" (otherwise known as sintered nylon powder). You, of course, can have the .stl file printed in any medium and place you desire. If you use Shapeway's nylon powder source, here's a link to their suggestions on how to paint them: https://www.shapeways.com/tutorials/painting3dprintedsls

Shark Hunt! -- a printable prototype solo (one player) tabletop game

Your backing of this project will help finance the making a factory-manufactured copy that can be introduced to backers in a future Kickstarter.

What Backers Get:

-- The $1 Backer will receive (via email attachments) the files for the printable game board and rules (with the "Sample" text removed) with the board comprising hexagonal "squares" to track movement within a Coastal Edge, maneuverable Danger Zone, and a Deep Blue Sea area that returns the shark or boat back to the Danger Zone. The ($1) backer will need to provide the one 6-sided die and two tokens (boat & shark) required for play.

-- The $3 Backer gets the above, plus the .stl file needed for the Backer to be able to 3D-print their own boat and shark fin tokens!

-- TWO $60 Backers gets the above, plus their own factory-manufactured copy of the game -- ahead of the next Kickstarter round -- in about a month.

Play: Die roll will determine the direction of shark movement, while the player will determine boat movement & direction without dice. What better way to represent the mindless, soulless and seemingly random movements of the shark, while the boatmen frustratingly try to keep up with the shark -- waiting to attack (or be attacked). Die roll will also determine whether boat/shark encounters result in either's destruction! Extensive play testing demonstrates that the game is well balanced, where the Boat (the player) wins 58% of the time, with the Shark's wins evenly split between destroying the boat (21%) and reaching the beach (21%)!

Outcome: If the boat lands on the shark "square," there's a 33% chance that the roll of the die will kill the shark and the player wins; if the shark lands on the boat "square,"  there's a 33% chance that the roll of the die will destroy the boat and the player loses. If the shark reaches the yellow coastal area beyond the red-bordered water hex, the player automatically loses. If, however, the shark reaches the docking area, it dies, but you get nothing -- meaning, the player loses, too, because the dock crew killed the shark and not you.

The Future: Once funds are raised, a manufacturer will make a quad-fold 10" x 10" gameboard and will include a 6-sided die, 3-D printed boat token and shark fin token (both tokens are white to allow the owner to do customized painting) all enclosed in a professionally-printed game box (rules printed on outside bottom of box). A new Kickstarter will be launched and all original backers will be notified at launch for a limited number of reduced-price games (that equal the number of original backers). After all slots are filled, with original backers competing with the general public (notified 24 hours later), all remaining backers will have to fund at the higher rate.

THE SETTING: You live in a resort town off the coast of the Atlantic. While your competing fishermen already set sail for the rich fishing grounds beyond this region, you've finally finished repairing your, uh, rickety boat. Suddenly, the word's out that a huge shark has been spotted in these local waters, and the resort industry is anxious to have it hunted down before it hunts down high-paying beach guests. The Deep Pockets come to you out of desperation, and you -- having missed the best part of the fishing season -- are only too happy to give it a try! Here's the catch (pun intended): If you kill the shark, you'll make enough to retire for the remainder of the season; if, however, the shark reaches shore, don't bother coming back.

Are you up for the challenge where the fun lies in the hunt? Be a backer and have the time of your life at a very low cost.

Risks and challenges

I've designed board games before and have dealt with the same manufacturer for over two years. The last successfully funded gaming project to date has been Tiny Bubbles card game. I see this current project as a win-win for the backers and myself in that backers get to play the basic game, and I get the needed funds to take the game from printable version to complete manufactured product. The only risk is if the goal is not reached.

A file (pdf format) of the game board and rules will be sent as an email attachment to each backer. After a manufactured version becomes available, I will contact the backer to see if they want to obtain their copy at a yet-to-be-determined price in a future Kickstarter.
