My name is Yu-Chen Tseng. I’m a graphic designer and illustrator based in Edmonton, Alberta. I grew up reading story books and have always been fascinated by them. I've always had a love for drawing and creating a world of my own. I spend my free time at markets and events selling my illustrations and products. Some comments I got a lot were “do you illustrate children’s books? If not, you should,” which motivated me to write and illustrate my own book, hence the birth of Koko the Bear.
Koko the Bear is a fully illustrated book about a brown bear who is unlike any other. He didn’t feel like he belonged, but eventually learns his uniqueness is what makes him who he is. I remember growing up in Canada, I wasn’t sure if I would fit in because of my ethnicity. I then came to realize that my ethnicity is what makes me who I am today. This book shares a message - that it’s okay to be different. It’s what makes you, you!
The first mock up of the book is printed. I’ve shown it at markets and received a lot of positive feedback. This book is suitable for kids, adults and/or for people who simply enjoy collecting a good illustrated picture book.
Risks and challenges
The first mock up of the book and rewards are made. Once the project is successfully funded, I can contact the printer and manufacturers right away with the orders. All orders will be hand pack by me. It should be ready to ship in November, just in time for Christmas!
I will communicate with the backers in case any unexpected difficulties arise. I’m prepared to handle whatever challenges come my way!
