The Dust Settles
The dust is settling on the excitement at the climax of the Calculus Cat Kickstarter project, and it's time I gave you an update on where things stand now.
Firstly, and repeatedly, I want to thank you for your part in this. I'm really grateful to you for having faith in me and Calculus Cat, and for backing me to get the book into print. It's a great feeling to know that you are as enthusiastic about it as I am. Thankyou.
All the stories in the Calculus Cat book are drawn, from the first in 1978 to the latest, which I completed just a few days ago. The versions of CC by other cartoonists are nearly all in; there are about 40 of them, and they're fantastic! Now I have to do the layout of the book to send to the printer, and I have made a good start on that layout. I still have to design two covers - one for the paperback edition and one for the exclusive wraparound cover on the de-luxe Kickstarter edition. My first priority is to finish the book preparation by the end of July, when we'll send it to the printer in HongKong. This will give them plenty of time to make the book and get it back to us in time for the Lakes International Comics Art Festival in October in Kendal, Cumbria. LICAF is a super festival, and we're looking forward to launching the book there.
While the book is with the printer I'll be designing and making the various Rewards. The t-shirt design is ready, and I've spoken to my friend Gerv Hammill at Mission Print, Birmingham to schedule the job. Designs for the badges, magnets and guitar picks won't take long to do, and production and delivery of those items takes only a week or so. I have still to draw the A4 colour prints, and I have already lined up the printing job, along with the prints of the 4-page story in colour, with Michelle, my favourite printer. So, all told, the packages of de-luxe books and rewards will be ready to mail to you at the beginning of November, and possibly sooner than that.
I will be making a bit of film of me shouting the names of 16 backers in the street, to prove it has been done, and I'll let you know when that is available to view. If you've chosen a t-shirt as part of your reward I will be contacting you to find out what size shirt you want. If you want to pre-empt me on this and let me know right away your size, then that will be fine.
I'll keep you up to date from time to time with our progress - though be assured, I won't be bombarding you with emails every couple of days. Meanwhile, thanks again for your backing. I'm looking forward to sending you the Calculus Cat comic book - it's going to be a good one!
And finally - don't forget - Skweeky Weets are skweekier AND weetier!
