About

THE STORY

Kendal was a 5-sport athlete and played college basketball.
Kendal was a 5-sport athlete and played college basketball.

Kendal Levine was serving as a church missionary in Sydney, Australia, in 2014.  She and a fellow missionary had pulled over on the side of the road so she could take a picture of a double rainbow.  As she was taking the picture, a man fell asleep at the wheel of his car and hit her, trapping her underneath the car.

Here's the photo Kendal took of the double rainbow right before she was struck by the car.

Miraculously, a bystander was able to pull her out from underneath the car by using a hydraulic jack and save her life.  Kendal was in a coma for 2 months, and when she regained consciousness, had lost all physical and mental capabilities, including the ability to walk, talk, and care for herself.

Once Kendal was released from the hospital, her long road of recovery began.  For almost 5 years, she has undergone rigorous amounts of therapy, trying to reclaim the life that she once had.  She slowly regained her ability to walk, to talk, and to live.

Kendal has made a lot of progress, but every day is still a struggle for her as she tries to get back to the life she had before the accident.

THE PROJECT

Now, Kendal wants to return to the place where it all happened for the first time, and find and meet the man that caused the accident (she has never had the opportunity to actually meet him).  Her desire to embark on a new mission of helping others begins by finishing what she started and bringing peace to the man who brought an unexpected twist in her life.

We want to capture this moment and share it with you.  Stiry is a small video production team that creates compelling, emotional video stories and mini-documentaries that help people discover their potential. Here's an example of a video we've done, a short story about a woman who had to re-discover her identity and is now changing the world:

In order to achieve the full vision, we will need to fund $58,000 to cover the following costs:

  • Travel expenses (travel visas, flights, baggage, hotels, production vehicle, food)
  • Production equipment (camera/lens rentals, audio equipment, lighting)
  • Crew (Day rates for Director, Director of Photography/A Camera Operator, B Camera Operator/Sound, Producer, Production Assistant)
  • Post-production costs (Editing for a full mini-documentary, including graphics, sound mixing, and color correction, as well as exporting the final product including all social media channel deliverables and live events, as well as behind-the-scenes videos)
  •  Red Carpet Premiere costs (Venue, event production).

We want to thank everyone who is helping make this journey for Kendal possible.  It is an important step in her healing process, and we believe it will be equally important for the man that caused the accident.

*** This story will be dedicated to Neuroworx, the non-profit charity that has helped Kendal with her recovery and gotten her to where she is today.  Neuroworx is a non-profit, outpatient physical therapy clinic focusing on neurological rehabilitation for individuals experiencing paralysis from spinal cord injuries, brain injuries, stroke, and other neurological conditions.  As a non-profit, they provide care regardless of ability to pay.

Risks and challenges

Filmmaking comes with many risks.

First and foremost, there are obvious risks when traveling. There are unpredictable challenges that could factor into any film production, such as location changes, weather, and possible gear issues. However, our experienced team is very familiar with overcoming unexpected obstacles and is committed to getting Kendal's story out there.

There is also a risk that the man will not be willing to meet Kendal or be on camera. We will do everything in our power to make this happen, while also being respectful of the situation and his right to privacy. Regardless, we will capture Kendal's journey back to Australia for the first time, back to the scene of the accident and the places that mean the most to her.
