For the future revision that we are trying to fund, the short answer is yes, given the feedback we've received.
For the current design, the short answer is maybe, so please read on. The Crank Lite currently supplies up to 2 watts of power at 3.8 max voltage and 500 milliamps. Typical USB charging ports require 5 volts. That said, we have powered cell phones directly by removing the battery and connecting the Crank Lite output port to the battery terminals since many phones have 3.5V to 3.8V batteries.
Additionally, we are working on a cool ultra low power basic cell phone that will be an attachment to the Crank Lite for emergencies and weekends when you may not want all the info available from a smartphone.
