Hardware Art has been working for several years to make a well designed human-driven power source and flashlight. Apart from light, the design is meant to add modular components to drive an array of low powered electronics.
We patented the design in 2013 and now have created three fully functioning prototypes for fund raising. We are looking to further our goals as stated below:
- make another batch of the high-end Ipe wood and alumninum material units with minor updates based on demand
- work on finding sources to build lower priced versions in the USA
- develop an extendable clip-on light for reading/walking/biking while you crank (currently in early design stage)
- develop an ultra-low power cell phone (currently in working electronic prototype stage)
With your help, we can work to build products that last a lifetime. No batteries required.

Risks and challenges
Our primary challenge will be trying to lower costs while maintaining a high quality product. We are actively researching different production methods and materials as well as streamlining our current build process.
Additionally, we are working on extensions to our main Crank Lite product. Extensions will be based on campaign feedback.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
