There’s the Checkered Flag—Thanks for an Awesome Race!

Posted by Monte Cook Games (Creator)

The Strange Kickstarter campaign has come to an incredibly successful end. We here at MCG are so proud and thrilled at the reception you’ve given the game. Thanks so much for making this all a reality! It will take a year and a half—possibly longer—to bring all of these fantastic products to fruition, so we have our work ahead of us. We can’t wait!

This is Charles writing; I’m the COO of Monte Cook Games, and I’m the guy who’s written the bulk of what you’ve been reading over the course of the campaign (leaving Bruce, Monte, and Shanna free to write what you really want to read—our great games!). I want to personally thank each and every backer, not just for making this such a success, but also for making it such a pleasure. You’re a fantastic group of gamers.

I’d also like to call out the hard work of the entire Monte Cook Game staff: Shanna, Monte, Bruce, and Tammie. Each of them has put in a lot of long, long hours not just to make this campaign a success, but to keep all of our many other plates spinning as this was going on.

And I’d like to thank the incredibly talented Matt Stawicki, our lead concept artist who provided the bulk of all the great art you’ve seen over the past five weeks, on a very tight schedule. And Reece Ambrose, who did the great mockup graphics (frequently turning them around in mere minutes when necessary) and Lee Smith, who created all the other Kickstarter graphics.

There are a hundred other people I should thank, from those who helped put the word out for us to the very kind gamers who led the conversation and answered a lot of questions in our comments section. But more than anything it comes back around to you, the supporters.

We ended the campaign at about $418,500—just shy of a $420,000 stretch goal. The enthusiasm at the end of the campaign was incredible, with dozens of backers in the Kickstarter's comments cheering us through the final stretch. With so much good cheer, we can’t let this end on a down note—even a minor one. So we’re going to honor the stretch goal anyway, and make the hoped-for upgrades to the Strange Recursions book.

You made this game a reality. Personally, and from all of us at MCG, thanks.

A woot! for McGee and their successful Kickstarter! And really great that they will implement the last stretch. A stand-up organization.

    3. Russell Ventimeglia

MCG is definitely a VERY classy act. Thanks for the last stretch goal. I think the recursions book looks the most interesting. Can't wait to see the whole line and the homemade recursions online.

Not interested in the Strange at all...I just backed to get more Numenera-related stuff...Creatures, Descriptor & Foci and new Cypher. Numenera has to be the best Setting I've ever seen.

    5. Drew Daniel Brigner on

Great Job guys, I was blown away by Numenera, so I couldn't help but contribute, can't wait to see what "The Strange" has in store!

    6. Raphael

My internet connection was down last night so I missed the final hours, but I'm cheering now.

Here's to a perfectly executed, well-organised and generous Kickstarter; to a great idea to be made into a game for us; and to MCG, whose fault it all is. Cheers!

Fantastic. I backed on the strength of Numenera. And in the end, you have all proven to be in a class all by yourselves. Kudos for an incredible kickstarter.

Class Act MCG! I was holding my breath during the final 14 minutes... hoping, hoping for another 2k. Thanks for the great KS, and the great product I know you are already working hard to create!

    14. Freebooter Toys

Class act offering the upgrade anyway. Makes me feel not so terrible for spamming BACK THIS, IT'S A GREAT DEAL about 10 times during the run. LOL

    15. Jeff Narucki on

      Unbelievable finish! Great job crew!!!!

    16. Keovar on

Congratulations to MCG on a great KS, and thank you for tossing that last stretch goal in with the horseshoes and hand-grenades (actually, that sounds bad... so just thank you!).
I hope Kickstarters will continue to be a relatively-sound way to launch products, and it would be even better if there were a way to train the site to alert me of projects I'm likely to be interested in.

    17. Jim Groves on

MCG really sets a standard in class and grace. Thank you so much for honoring that last goal.

You guys are awesome; truly dedicated to your fans. I have to say this has been one of the most fun and exciting kickstarters I've participated in. Can't wait for the play test to get stuck in and help out on what I'm sure is going to be a great addition to the MCG lineup.
