Oooo. With the books being printed, when do the ebooks go out?

It took me a little while to figure out a personalization that I wanted, but I'm finally happy with one.

      Six days!

This article (the link people were directed to from the main Kickstarter page to find stretch goal info) says, "$170,000: We’ll do a PC version of the app as well as one for Android and iOS, and you’ll be able to choose which one you want."

Adrian Smith left a comment saying, "Please make the app available to all backers in all formats," meaning, presumably, that he was hoping all backers would have access to Android, iOS, AND PC versions.

Monte Cook replied, "The app is available to all in all three formats at $3 and above. Is it listed incorrectly somewhere?"

So, all that said, the main entry about the app was pretty clear, but I can understand how some folks might be confused.

For my part, I'll be picking the Android version. I can carry my tablet and phone a lot more places than I can carry my PC.

      Hello from Monte Cook Games!

      Hi Matthew!

We have not sent the final survey yet. We are waiting until the last, breathless moment to pull the trigger on that final survey. We want to gather as much up-to-date information as possible, and this requires nerves of steel...which I know all Numenera supporters possess in abundance!

      Kind regards,

Quick question -- I don't seem to have anything indicating you have requested my address for shipping purposes. Did anyone send out the survey and I just missed it?

The app will cost the same and do the same things on the different platforms.

It facilitates character creation in a nice, visual way, and stores your character. You can also advance your character when it is time to do so. Lastly, you can use it to track your character's changing stats and equipment during a game session, so you can use it at the table, but that's not its primary focus.

    7. Jim Johnson ValorianRidgerunner on

Well, I'm not going to dig around for quotes but I always thought we were each getting one Character Creator App, and we would choose an OS from available platforms. If I buy an app from the Amazon app store for my Kindle, I don't imagine they will give me additional versions that will work on my laptop and phone too. In an ideal world all software would work on all devices...

    8. John Bellando

Like some others, my choice of App is going to now depend upon pricing for the App on different platforms. I have a question submitted to 3lb Games about pricing of the App on different platforms. If I hear anything I will post here.

*typos* Thick mod, not think :/

    10. Sheri Bryan on

@Alphastream The deals you got from the kickstarter were pretty spectacular actually. The core rulebook alone in print is $60.00, and depending on what option that was chosen...most games price mods anywhere from 10-30 dollar a piece (especially if it's a rather think mod with alot of things in it), and I'm sure the Players Guide will follow most average pricing, anywhere between 20-40 dollars retail...and that's just a few of the things that were offered through the actually, this was a fantastic deal over all

I get where the app part was confusing (I'm one of them), but I trust that the Numenera folks are going to come up with a solution, where it's a retail/appstore option, ect

I'm especially happy that things are being released pretty much within the timeframe given, many kickstarter don't achieve that and in some cases....don't release anything at all.

So overall I Numenera...keep up the good work, super excited to receive your product when you get it to me (Christmas in August) yay! :)

      Hello from Monte Cook Games!

I want to take a minute to address your concerns, alphastream, concerning value, transparency, and confidence

Numenera Kickstarter backers are getting a great deal. For example, a backer—such as yourself—at the REAL DEAL level backed Numenera for $60 and will receive roughly $240 worth of merchandise, plus free shipping, and you’ll have the Numenera eBook well in advance of the game.

As one of the people answering countless questions, I assure you we are as transparent and forthcoming as possible. If I don’t know the answer to a question, I don’t make up an answer. Instead I say, ‘I don’t know, but I’ll find out.”

We are working hard to deliver an amazing product on time. To the countless fans who’ve emailed and Facebooked words of encouragement: THANK YOU FOR BEING AWESOME!

      Kind regards,
      Tammie Webb Ryan

For what it's worth, while I can understand that some people are confused about the platform issue for the app, it would have been strange that there was an add-on for the app if we weren't going to be selecting a version down the line (considering that every tier includes the app).

    14. Missing avatar

      Hmm-Hmm. on

Like Alphastream, I actually thought I'd get to choose multiple platforms (for me both PC and Mac). It would have been nice to know beforehand although I certainly could've missed some information as unlikely as it seems.

    15. Alphastream on

In talking to other backers we found we were all really having trouble deciding which platform to choose. We thought we could get the app for any OS we used, and without knowing anything about the app it is hard to know what we will use the most. I generally would use a PC for character generation, but if it has features useful at the table I might prefer iOS.

Not knowing what your pricing will be makes this harder, because it isn't clear if all platforms will be equally costly in the future. If we choose iOS, do we then find the PC is more expensive? Or that some features aren't included?

I'm very glad to support this Kickstarter, and I do sometimes support Kickstarters just to help fund something, but it does at times seem like the Kickstarter provided very few advantages over buying the product when it actually releases (get it faster in stores, lots of other ways to get it cheaply, etc.). I think it would help future Numenera Kickstarters (including the current one for the map) to know that we can with confidence back early offerings and have transparency around what we are receiving. Thanks!

      Hello from Monte Cook Games!

      Wow! Numenera fans rock!

Thank you from Monte and all of us at Monte Cook Games for backing Numenera and thank you for your kinds words.

First and foremost: Don't panic. We've got your back. We're real people working hard to bring you awesome games. We will do our best when possible to accommodate your requests. With that being said, sometimes the answer is no, and it makes us sad to say no, but it is necessary.

Here are some thoughts and a few short, but sweet, answers to questions:

We're sorry, but it is not possible to increase your pledge level for Numenera.

We hope to be able to offer all merchandise for sale, but some products (like dice) are limited in quantity and are slated for other uses (like Kickstarter reward fulfillment). When possible, we will offer all publications (except for The Nightmare Switch) and products for sale on our website.

If you have questions about specific features of the app, please get in touch with 3lb Games at

I'm sorry that there was confusion over the versions (platforms) of the app. That must be very frustrating. To be frank, I don't know how to answer your questions about app platforms and discounts for future purchases at this time, but I will find out the answers and post an update here later.

Many backers will get Numenera before it hits store, some won't. This make us sad because Numenera backers are the best and deserve the best, but at this time we aren't able to warp time and space to make deliveries happen as we would like them to happen. This upsets us and will drive us to even better delivery performance in the future. Thank you for your understanding.

If I didn't answer your question, please feel free to email me directly at We wish you all the best!

      Kind regards,
      Tammie Webb Ryan

For those of you asking questions here about release dates and the like, please note that you aren't likely to get answers via comments, per what Monte wrote in the update:

"In fact, if you have any questions at all about the Numenera release, backer rewards, or similar topics, please ask your question in an email to"

That email is your friend if you really need answers.

whelp, I'll be getting the PC version of the app, but I'll probably want to pick up the Android version as well for my devices. Any thoughts to a discount code for backers?
Also, although I didn't pick up a dice set from the Kickstarter, will Numenara Dice sets be available for order through retailers in the long run?

    24. John Bellando

I'd like to echo the confusion on the App. I don't recall saying it was a 1 Platform only but more of "It's available on these platforms that you may have access to." If we have to make a choice, will Kickstarter Backers be able to purchase the other Platforms for $3 afterwards?

    25. Magentawolf on

@Ben - Aug 14th is GenCon, though, so there's no way they want to miss that if they can help it.

Great work. It's a little disappointing though that backers will likely end up getting their copies after it hits the stores though. Would have been nice to see another week or two buffer in there. The likelyhood of all 2000~ being shipped and delivered within 8 days (minus weekend etc) isn't great.

    27. Eric Coates

Man I wish I would have had the cash at the time for the dice (and other things hehe) they look very cool.

So thrilled for you and everyone @ Monte Cook Games!

Is there an ETA for Thunderstone?

    29. Alphastream on

I guess I didn't realize the app was for just one platform per pledge. It could have been clearer, but it does say "or" in some places when listing platforms. I assumed that was indicating choice by the customer, not a hard limit.

    30. Graeme Lewis on

Oh, man... the excitement... I can hardly wait! And I'm only getting PDFs! Oh, man, I can't imagine how pumped the people who're getting actual books must feel!

To echo another backer, you are amazing to be able to come through on time with this book. Back when the Numenera Kickstarter was just wrapping up, many people doubted your ability to keep on track due to how popular and large Numenera had grown. So, thank you for proving them wrong. I cannot wait to get my goodies!
