About

The Story

Andrew Banks is a private eye working in and around the city of Houston. It has taken him three years since finishing grad school to realize that private detective work is what he's been after.

He spent time working as a probation officer, but soon found the revolving door of his work to be too much. It became obvious fairly quickly that it didn't matter how much he wanted to help his probationers if they didn't want to help themselves.

He then moved on to working security for his alma mater. It was a decent job with great hours and benefits, just not what he was looking for at the time.

With the help of his longtime girlfriend, he decides to open up an office in the city of Meadows Place, TX, a tiny suburb just outside Houston.

His first client is a teenage girl who hires him to find out what's going on between her parents because it's evident to her that it's something more than a typical argument between spouses.

Andrew soon discovers that his client's father, a middle-age bank manager, has become involved with the worst kind of people, major players in a Mexican drug cartel.

It's up to Andrew to save this family before it's too late for them, and for him.

The Inspiration

I identified writing as a passion of mine in my early high school years. I remember taking novels to school to read during exams and being eyed awkwardly beginning in my sophomore year.

I was drawn to crime fiction only by chance. I may be wrong, but the first book I ever bought was most likely High Profile (Jesse Stone #6) by Robert B. Parker. I read the back cover and thought it might be a good read. Well, I was instantly hooked. I started the Jesse Stone series from the beginning and later began reading the fantastic Spenser series also penned by Parker. I now have 20 of his books in my ever growing collection.

The same thing happened with another of my favorite authors even before I read a book by Robert B. Parker. Before I was old enough to work, I'd check out books from the local library based on reviews I read online. I found A Stolen Season (Alex McKnight #7) by Steve Hamilton a few years ago. I started the Alex McKnight series from the beginning years later and became hooked. I have all but two of Steve Hamilton's books, and was lucky enough to meet him at a signing in 2011. The picture of me on this project page is with him.

Lastly, Robert Crais has written several books, mostly in his Elvis Cole/ Joe Pike series. I just happened to read The Two Minute Rule a few years back because it happened to be a bargain book at Barnes and Noble. Again, because I enjoyed the book so much, I began reading his Elvis Cole series and have loved every one of his books I've read since.

You see, these three authors have written extraordinary detective series. I wouldn't dare put myself in their company, but I want to write what they already have. Different stories and different characters, yes, but I want to put my stamp on the genre for as many readers as possible.

That is what I hope to begin with my first book.

The Project

You're probably wondering what your pledges will cover when it comes to publishing my book. Well, let's see if I can give you a better understanding below.

First, it will allow me to publish a book that is ready for publication. What I mean is that I won't be utilizing some of the so-called do-it-yourself publishers out there.

This project will allow me to get my manuscript in the hands of several professional copyeditors who will help me publish the best book I can.

After the final manuscript is approved I will be tasked with having professional-style front and back covers of the book made. Again, there are cheap publishers that will do a below average job, but the company I intend to use does not fall into that category.

Now the book is ready for print, but what good is a book by an unknown author ready for print if there is no buzz surrounding its publication? Well, I have found several reputable book reviewers who will offer an unbiased review of the book and post it on websites such as Amazon so that potential buyers of the book will have a better understanding of the work before purchase. These reviewers are often given the book free of charge in exchange for their service.

Lastly, most indie bookstores will take a self-published novel on consignment, which means that I will have to give copies of my book to the store and they will put it on their shelves. However, if my book never sells, then I never get paid anything by the store. The more generous you are, the more stores and libraries I'll be able to get my book into, and thus more readers!

I have an active blog that is dedicated to following my book writing progress. Follow it here:

Risks and challenges

The obvious major obstacle to the fulfillment of rewards for this project is whether or not I'll be able to finish the book at all, and that is the one obstacle that I am sure to overcome. I can't tell you exactly how the book will end. I can't give you an exact date as to when the book will be complete, but I can tell you that it will be finished. I've devoted the first three months after my college graduation to this book and I won't stop until it's finished. I've put in too many hours to just give up.

Also, the estimated dates given for the delivery of rewards is exactly what it says, estimated. But they should be met quite easily by my printer and me. Once the final manuscript is approved, the printing, front and back covers, bookmarks, posters, and postcards all take only days to complete.

Feel free to contact me with any other questions you may have regarding the completion of my project.
