Meanwhile, we have set up a Board Game Geek evaluation poll and post to gather feedback from the community on the reasons behind. Please help us to complete the poll so that we can re-launch in the future with a better product and campaign.
We will like to thank all our backers here who have supported us and gave us encouragement during the entire campaign. We know that we have a fantastic product, after all the validation from reviewers and our backers and we will make sure to do everything our ability to bring Debtzilla to life. We hope that you will come back again to support us when we re-launch. Meanwhile, do sign-up for our newsletter or like our facebook page for any latest development on our re-launch.
Debtzilla is a 2 to 4 player, cooperative board game where you take on the roles of financially strapped heroes working together to protect ordinary Citizens from being scammed by villains and their big bad boss: Debtzilla.
In the land of Banana Republic, an incompetent and corrupted government has caused a wave of crime and lawlessness in the Republic. A few brave souls showed up and decided to take on the mantle of Heroes - to combat the Villains who are scamming the hard-earned savings of ordinary Citizens. However, beneath every Hero lies a hard working citizen, who needs to work, save and borrow money in order to finance his crime fighting career. Yet, little did they know that their credit card bills are feeding the ultimate monster of mass destruction: Debtzilla.
Debtzilla uses a combination of simplified deck building, simultaneous turn order, dice placement and dice manipulation mechanics to create an easy to learn and challenging game with high replayability and zero player downtime.
In Debtzilla, your objective is to defeat all the financial villains and confront Debtzilla before it can awake from its slumber and trigger a Debt Apocalypse. Debtzilla will become harder to defeat as it feeds on the debt incurred by you and the bankrupted citizens. Once Debtzilla's life reaches 100, you will lose the game.
Pick from a roster of Heroes inspired by financial titans of our own universe who have played a big influence in the world of finance. Each Hero has vastly different powers and strategies have to be adapted in order to bring out the best of the Heroes.
To gear up, you will need money. Unlike many comic book heroes, Heroes in the Banana Republic need to work and save up in order to finance their vigilante lifestyle. You will first draw your salary by opening 5 cards from a deck of 10 predetermined cards and draw the resources from the opened cards.
After collecting your resources, you can choose to draw a card from a pool of income cards or repay your debt. What kind of cards you draw will is based on the strategy you want to take. You can take the conservative route by saving up and by slashing spending and interest payments, or go on a debt fueled spending spree to power up your hero quickly. But be warned that every loan that you take out will feed Debtzilla directly, pushing the world closer to destruction.
There is a variety of gadgets which can be purchased and getting the right combination of gadgets will eliminate lady luck from your dice throws. Gadgets can be used to modify your dice and your allies' dice and can help improve the chances of defeating Villains tremendously.
You can buy as many gadgets as you want, but you can choose to equip one of the Gadget base on the situation required and the Gadgets will stay with you permanently throughout the game. Before you can confront Debtzilla, you will need to take out the Villains who are scamming the Citizens of the Banana Republic.
To stop the Villains, you must roll the numbers which correspond to the numbers of the Villains' weak points. Every player will start off with two dice. At the start of the game, you will find yourself weak and at the mercy of luck while confronting the Villains. Defeating Villains will become exponentially easier as you gear up during the course of the game.
You can also make use of your hero's abilities to turn the course of the battle. Tweetman is an anti-hero, whereby he can damage the citizens to manipulate the dice or takes the money from the citizens before the villains can get their hand on their wealth. Hey, it's better to use the money for greater good than letting the wealth fall into the wrong hands... right??
Once all the Villains are defeated, you will need to face the ultimate challenge of defeating the final boss. How powerful the boss will be, will depend on how much health Debtzilla has. Stacking up too many Citizen bankruptcies and Heroes' debt will make Debtzilla almost impossible to defeat.
Confront an alternative and more difficult boss, Inflationsaurus! Unlike Debtzilla which grows on interest, Inflationsaurus feeds on your luxury expenses instead. The more you spend, the more powerful it will become!
