In 2013 Evan Riley, leader of the Evan Riley Band, heard a story that changed him forever. Jamie Brockmeyer and Brianne Morris, both teachers and friends of Evan, had suffered the loss of a child at a very young age - 16 months and 2 1/2 years. After hearing this Evan, a father of two himself, felt moved to pick up his guitar. The result was his original song "Promise".
Quickly the idea of a record centered around love and loss took shape. But Evan had bigger things in mind than just a record. Bookends Vol. 1, 2, 3" explores the world of life and death through music, literature, video, and art. Says Evan, "I really wanted to create and be part of an artistic project that could speak to the immensity of life and death in our lives."
Here is what the project includes:
* Bookends Volume 1 CD - Full length concept album by the Evan Riley Band
* Bookends Volume 2, 3 - Two companion stories inspired by lyrics from the CD written by T.S. Hall and Michael Mood.
* "Life Dance" official video - Evan Riley Band will be creating a music video for their most uplifting original song that celebrates life
* Making of Bookends DVD - Evan Riley Band wants to document the making of the huge project. Filming will include recording in the studio, artists at work, interviews, and the kickstarter process!
This project is much bigger than just a collection of songs. It is a project that speaks to the heart of who we are and why we are here. Please consider helping us make this a reality!!
Risks and challenges
The obvious risk with this project is the immensity of it as well as the timeline.
It is not just recording a record - it is a recording with the idea that songs will tie together and tell a story of one man's journey through life. This also means collaborating with the band members, all of which are parents and have day jobs, to take time to get in the studio
It is not just asking the authors to write a book - it is creating two different stories inspired by the lyrics and songs from the album in a way connects
It is not just making a music video - it is making a lasting piece of art that will speak to all people. It is collaborating and scheduling a massive group of over 100 people to partake in the video and getting permits to block off a street.
It is not just a making of DVD - it is a making of "Bookends Vol. 1, 2, 3" documentary that shows inspirations and motivations of the people behind this project.
ALL BY JUNE 2014!
We plan on accomplishing this project by pouring our blood, sweat, and tears into every aspect. One of the best things this project has going for it is that there are a lot of people involved! There are musicians, authors, artists, and tech support people who will inspire, push, and help each other through obstacles. Everyone involved is committed to seeing this project through because if one of us falters we all falter.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
