Back this project
The Patchogue-Medford Library has recently won a prolonged battle to renovate the old Carnegie Library into a modern teen center.Part of our dream is to provide a recording studio for teens to record music & podcasts & storytelling project on professional equipment.
We have set up a pop-up digital lab in the library. The concept has proved popular amongst our teens. They have recorded Youtube videos, podcasts and songs. The experience has also raised numerous issues.
Our equipment severely limits the quality of sound they can produce. We currently have a Mac with Garage band installed and single multidirectional mic. We would like to purchase a Mac Pro, a soundboard, additional mics & equipment to support the recording of music.
Our meeting rooms are not currently sound proof. All sorts of issues have popped up because of this. In addition, our meeting rooms are really small. Our goal for the new teen space is to create a soundproof room that can comfortable fit 6 teens with their equipment.
The Patchogue-Medford Library is located on the South Shore of Long Island, NY in Suffolk County.Long Island is best known for the Gold Cost and the Hamptons. These places are famed playgrounds for the rich and famous. We are located in the other part of Long Island. We are located in an economically & demographically diverse area. Many of our teens are not provided the same opportunity their peers are, and it is part of our mission to level the playing field. We hope that the new Carnegie teen center is a place where all teens can expect equal treatment and consideration regardless of their background.
Critical to equality is give every population an equal voice in all matters relevant to their community. Radio PMLIB will be a podcast stream, non-profit record label & community owned project that allows teens to express themselves in a safe environment.
Risks and challenges
The biggest obstacle we have to overcome is possible construction delays. We have tried to factor that into our project timeline, but I expect the unexpected.
We will tackle setbacks one at a time with an eye on keeping our public and backers happy. We understand people will be eager for their rewards, and we will work hard to stick to the timeline.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
