About this project

Brothers and Sisters,

My 8th Voodoo Organist album, Vampire Empire, is ready. The songs are my best yet—possibly my most personal, poignant and political. Certainly my favorite. Written, recorded, performed and produced entirely by myself over the course of 2012. I used a few different organs to mix it up a bit, but still retain and expand on the vibe of Organeddon. As usual I swing from styles ranging from industrial blues to death jazz to space rock. Titles include Dancing With Mr. Dee, Vulture Culture and Synthesist.

Custom art by the amazing Andrew Goldfarb (Slow Poisoner) will round out the package. It will be a limited pressing of 500 cds, signed and numbered.

To help fund production costs, I am starting this Kickstarter campaign. You can pledge to pre-order Vampire Empire and other goodies, including a new tiki t-shirt design by the most awesome and frequent Voodoo collaborator, Aimee Watters.

Why am I asking for help? Well, as you may know, I've been completely DIY since VO's inception. Since 2002 I've performed about 800 shows across the US, released six self-produced albums, and received over 200 press articles—all without help from a record label, a manager, a booking or press agent, or a publicist. The Voodoo Organist is an independent and entirely self-funded entity. Over the last 11 years I've produced my own t-shirt, poster and sticker designs, bought and sold countless permutations of gear, gone through three tour vans, and maintained responsibility for all business expenses, from distribution and licensing to vehicle and equipment repairs to everything else involved in being a touring and recording artist. However, I don't have deep pockets. In fact, after all of this, I'm broke. My Kickstarter campaign for 2012's Organeddon went well (VOs 7th album), and I received great feedback about the project, so i thought I'd give it another go...

I'm asking for the bare bones amount I need to make this happen. The project goal covers the costs of mastering and manufacturing the discs, art and layout, packaging and shipping all pledge rewards, and the cut that Kickstarter and Amazon takes. I've already recorded the album on my own dime. Any money raised beyond the project goal will go toward printing t-shirts, posters and stickers, new pics, and possibly a video or two if things go really well. If I can afford to get new goodies like stickers, I will include them in the reward packages.

As always with Kickstarter, if the project goal is not met, then you're not charged anything. If the goal is met, you get the goods you pledged for.

I thank you for all the past, present and future support.

Na Zdrowie!!!

Scott

Risks and challenges

The only risks that would prevent fulfillment of this funded project are death or Armageddon. The cd is finished and ready to go, all i need is the funds to manufacture it. My last Kickstarter campaign finished without a hitch or a glitch, and with 100% positive feedback. I have a 10+ year proven track record of accomplishing the things i set out to do.
