About this project
After the launch of our original FlickDeck campaign, we worked with our manufacturer and used feedback from our backers to create a high-end version of our bottle opener & fidget spinner at a very affordable price. While our original FlickDeck was designed as an on-the-go hand spinner, we wanted to create a high-end stainless steel version that would fit perfectly in any home or office.
By utilizing stainless steel, we are able to create a spinner that fits the same profile as our original FlickDeck with nearly twice the weight. The added weight and upgrade to a ceramic bearing help the spinner achieve over twice the spin time as our original model. We have also included a new stretch goal for removable, concave bearing caps.
FlickDeck is a hand spinner designed to replace the everyday items you fidget with. From clicking or spinning pens during class or a meeting to twirling keys waiting in line for food, nearly all of us have found ourselves fidgeting at some time or another.
Each FlickDeck is precision machined from high-quality stainless steel. The smooth surfaces and rounded edges make FlickDeck extremely soft in your hands while maintaining a very heavyweight feel. the surfaces are left with a raw cut finish texture to create unique patterns and light reflections on every FlickDeck. The bearing caps are precision turned from stainless steel to prevent any stains or ware marks after heavy use and can be upgraded to removable caps if our stretch goal is reached.
Most fidget spinners place bearings at the end of each arm to give the spinner outside weight to increase spin times. We designed FlickDeck to use the natural weight of the material itself to add outside spin weight to each arm, creating a much more appealing design with less pieces that can break or fall out.
Compared to our original FlickDeck, the stainless steel FlickDeck comes with a standard high-quality ceramic bearing. It is also over twice the weight as the aluminum FlickDeck and capable of spinning over twice as long. See our comparison of our two models below:
Standard Anodized Aluminum FlickDeck
Our standard, anodized aluminum decks are lighter and much more portable. They are perfect if you are looking for an everyday carry item to always have ready when you find yourself fidgeting. The aluminum decks will spin faster when spinning with one hand making them easier to handle when moving. The bottle opener gives this on-the-go version an essential everyday carry function.
NEW Stainless Steel FlickDeck
Due to its heavier weight, the stainless steel version is designed as the perfect companion to any home or office. The stainless steel finish creates unique reflections and patterns in the light that will catch anyone's attention sitting on a desk or coffee table. The heavier stainless steel will also spin over twice as long as our standard version.
SPIN TIME OVER 1.5 MINUTES
When we first created FlickDeck, our main goal was to create an affordable, attractive, all-metal spinner with a built in bottle opener. Adding the bottle opener was one of the main functions of our design and sets it apart from other spinners by combining two very common everyday carry items.
While our aluminum FlickDecks can achieve around 30 second spins using upgraded bearings, we are able to achieve much higher spin times with the added weight of the stainless steel. The stainless steel version can reach spin times of over 1.5 minutes. You can see the video below showing our sample stainless steel FlickDeck spinning.
After receiving feedback from our first campaign, we spent time working with our manufacturer to offer a bearing cap upgrade with our stainless steel version. The upgraded caps have a concave design for better grip and are also removable. Once unlocked, the upgrade can be added to your pledge on Kickstarter or in BackerKit following the campaign.

Additional units and original models can be ordered at discount pricing on BackerKit following the campaign as well!
We began making prototypes for FlickDeck in November of 2016. We went through several variations of 3D printed and aluminum designs before landing on our final design. We launched our aluminum FlickDeck version in December of 2016 using a prototype design. Once our campaign was funded, we went through several small design changes to reach our final machined units.
Our Stainless Steel FlickDeck picks up where our aluminum units finished, As a final product. We are using the exact dimensions from our aluminum FlickDeck to ensure a proven and fully finished product. We eliminated any prototyping or testing costs and allowed us launch this campaign using final products at a fraction of the cost it took us to launch our first campaign. This made it much easier to lower our reward costs and know that all speed bumps in our design are behind us. With every aspect of the product finalized, the only puzzle piece left is raising enough funds to start an initial manufacturing run. Below are several photos of some of our early prototypes and final anodized aluminum FlickDecks from our first Kickstarter campaign.
Risks and challenges
Having launched successful Kickstarters in the past, including a previous FlickDeck campaign, we are confident that we can easily avoid many problems that arise for first-time creators. We have carefully planned our manufacturing and fulfillment timelines and see very few challenges that could arise in delivering our product to backers on time, if not before. In the event of any unforeseen delay or problems with production, we will keep all of our backers informed during each step of the process.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
