This is the second volume in the Floodgate Poetry Series, an annual series of books collecting three chapbooks by three poets in a single volume, edited by Andrew McFadyen-Ketchum.
Chapbooks—short books under 40 pages—arose when printed books became affordable in the 16th century. The series is in the tradition of 18th and 19th century British and American literary annuals, and the Penguin Modern Poets Series of the 1960s and ’70s.
The three chapbooks in this second volume are: Kallie Falandays’ Tiny Openings Everywhere, Aaron Jorgensen-Briggs’s Score for a Burning Bridge, and Judy Jordan’s Hunger.
We're running this Kickstarter to make a little extra money for marketing and promotion. Bookstores take 30-40% of the cover price of the book off the top of what we receive when they sell a book, which is fair for the service they provide—but this does mean that if we provide the books directly, we make a little extra money which we can spend getting more attention for these remarkable chapbooks!
How Kickstarter Works
Kickstarter allows you to fund the creation of things that don't exist yet. In return for your pledge, you get to choose a reward. When you pledge, Kickstarter sends you to Amazon Payments to record your donation—but they don't bill you until the project reaches its end date. You can modify or cancel your pledge until the end date.
At the end of the campaign, I'll send you a survey (to the email address you give Kickstarter) for the information to get your pledge rewards to you. If you get a paperback copy as a gift for somebody else, the survey is where you can give me contact info for the giftee—so, when you check out, give Amazon your own address so they aren't confused about who they're billing.
Risks and challenges
Upper Rubber Boot Books is an established small press. The book is complete, with all authors contracted, galleys approved, cover art and layout done, and so forth. Since it's already ready to go now, the book will be published whether or not we reach our goal.
Despite our best planning, problems may crop up and cause delays: flood, tornado, alien invasion. Short of a major catastrophe, the book will be released on November 17, 2015.
No matter what, we'll keep you updated on our progress and challenges.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
