My name is Rocket Cordray, and I have written & illustrated a 200 page book concerning the womb and its association with the bridal veil. I have included anecdotes of my life story and my experience of Mormonism, and I seek to ennoble my religious culture (and especially Mormon women) by delicately discussing an association that is dominantly left unclear by the scriptures, rites, culture and protocol of our religion.
I have incorporated at least 40 of my pen and ink illustrations, most of which involve a style that is born from my admiration of expressionism, futurism, cubism, graffiti, comics, Czech animation and religious iconography. Because of these associations, this book promises to be a unique artifact in my religious culture, which is dominated by nonfiction books that are concerned with ancient studies, apologetics, and religious scholarship.
Because I am an artist, this book is more concerned with illuminated lettering, elaborate borders, and visual symbols than it is with scholarship. But I was an English major, so there will be plenty of literary turns, prose, critical theory, and examinations of popular culture to chew on as well.
To properly fund a book that I can't afford to publish, I am offering as incentives for pledging all of the original artwork that I can find... which, again, comes out to about 40 pen & ink drawings. Each of these will be signed and framed. I am also printing lovely posters of two of the most pertinent images in the book (the cover and the title page), and giving you the option of procuring either a soft or hard cover version of the book itself.
All of the money raised will go towards the publishing of the book. I have set a low goal because I will publish whatever amount of books that I can with whatever total I reach. So the more I raise, the more I can publish. I have also made it easy for you to give any amount you can, as even a single dollar will garner you an acknowledgment in the book (but please consider going beyond that if you can :).
Thank-you so much for checking my project out!
