Hops are coming in, recipe development in full swing!
Excuse the poor image quality (cell phone!), but I had to share the view from our bedroom window this morning..
The Fuggle hops are coming in strong, with full sized cones all over the bines! The Centennial are a little behind, but will definitely be an abundant harvest.
For the next few weeks we'll definitely be stepping up recipe development/testing/photographing, to make use of fresh hops and bines in not only the recipes themselves, but in the photography of those recipes.
This weekend, we finished development on two new recipes, and they were FANTASTIC. One was an appetizer, the other a main dish. Both were easy to make, and involved fresh herbs and hop leaves.
The main dish ended up having the after-eating properties of a well loved comfort food, where you kind of have to lean back, put your feet up, and bask in that "fat and happy feeling" .. which was kind of amazing, given how HEALTHY it was. Very hearty meal, though!
And this? This is the appetizer:
THAT right there is a plate of Mediterranean inspired cheese stuffed grilled hop leaves. They're filled with goat and feta cheeses, kalamata olives, a little chopped pepperoncini, and fresh herbs.
THESE resulted in one of those deep eye contact, gooey declarations of "I love you" from my husband that I tend to think of being usually reserved for like.. weddings and probably child births. I don't know.. Bottom line: they were *fantastic*!
Hop leaves are quickly becoming my favourite leafy green veggie.
We have less than 3 weeks to go on the Kickstarter campaign, and we're still a fair way from funding. Please be sure to share a link to the campaign on social media, or directly with friends who would love it - gardening friends, cooking friends, homebrew friends... this will be a great cookbook full of fantastic food!
Thanks again for all of your support!
