Pacific Rim: Extinction is a scenario-driven, tabletop miniatures strategy game of city-wide destruction and chaos of epic proportions, for two or more players. Join either the Pan Pacific Defence Corps or the invading Kaiju, and face off in a battle with the ultimate stake: extinction.
Getting started in Pacific Rim: Extinction is easy; the core set contains everything you need to start playing, including painted ~ 75mm Gipsy Avenger and Shrikethorn miniatures, dice, cards, tokens, buildings, terrain, Hex Gauge measuring tool, poster mat, and more.
The Miracle Mile All-In Pledge contains everything you see in the graphic here below PLUS all applicable stretch goals!
Note too that the Miracle Mile All-in pledge level is only available during the Kickstarter campaign, though all expansions and bundles will be available on the pledge manager.
Extinction Pledge Level
The miniatures of Pacific Rim: Extinction stand between 75-100mm tall, and close attention has been paid to bring the truly larger-than-life appeal of these huge machines and monsters straight to your tabletop!
With your support, we can add even more to the game, and offer expansions so you can choose your favourite Jaegers and Kaiju from both Pacific Rim films to bring into battle!
Help us break through these goals, and unlock two types of content:
- Bonus content sets, which add more cards, components, and customisation options into the core set (and expansions).
- Optional Buys, which you can increase your pledge to purchase (see below for a guide on how to do this). These are full expansions containing new Jaegers or Kaiju.
In Pacific Rim: Extinction you’ll be able to customise your force of Jaegers or Kaiju, using the machines, monsters, pilots, and mutations you favour to build up your personalised team! Take a look below to see all of the optional buy Expansions currently available.
If you want to expand your game with one or more of these optional buys, all you have to do is click on the “Manage Your Pledge” button on the Pacific Rim: Extinction Kickstarter page, which appears once you have made any pledge. Then increase your pledge by the total value of the expansions you would like to purchase.
For example, if you have pledged at the standard core set level (which is £35), and you would also like to receive the Saber Athena and Hakuja Expansions, you would click on the “Manage Your Pledge” button, and increase your pledge from £35 to £75 (£35+£20+20=£75).
After the campaign, we will be using a pledge manager to confirm which expansions you have paid for, so they can be added to your rewards!
We will be updating this section to include new videos featuring Pacific Rim: Extinction. We have a lot planned, so more will be added throughout the campaign.
Alessio Cavatore, one of the game designers, chats to the folks at Beasts of War about Pacific Rim: Extinction.
Take a closer look at Pacific Rim: Extinction in the ‘How To Play’ video from Geek & Sundry! We’re really excited to show off more of the game mechanics, and to show things in motion.
Pacific Rim: Extinction can be played with two or more players in either a ‘Quick Play’ or ‘Constructed Battle’ format. Quick Play involves using ‘Quick Play Cards’ which are included in the core set, and contain easy set-up guides so beginner players can focus on the fight without distraction.
BUILDING YOUR TEAM
In Constructed Battle, you’ll be able to fully customise the Jaegers and Kaiju to your own preferences, then pit them against each other in an intense objective-based battle. The Kaiju player chooses the scale of the attack based on the combined Category Rating of all Kaiju in play. This is known as the ‘Threat Level’. The Jaeger player then builds a PPDC response force. Jaegers, Rangers, and Upgrades all have points values, and the total points of a Jaeger team must be equal to or less than double the Kaiju Threat Level.
The goal of the game is different depending on which side you choose to fight with. As a Kaiju player, you’ll uncover a secret objective at the start of the game. To win, you’ll need to meet this objective, ideally without revealing what it is to the Jaeger player too early. As a Jaeger player, your goal is to fulfil the PPDC’s task: the protection of humanity. You’ll need to defend cities as Kaiju trample them, and take down the immense invaders.
The Jaegers and Kaiju each have their own abilities and customisation options. Using the 'Jaeger Conn-Pod’, ‘Upgrades’ can be applied to improve the machine’s weapons or other capabilities, while each 'Kaiju Signature’ can be altered with ‘Mutations’, making the monsters even more dangerous and unpredictable. As they clash, ‘Action Cards' are used to carry out the attacks and manoeuvres of both sides. Using these tools, the Jaeger and Kaiju must outwit, outmatch, and overcome their opponent.
CONN-PODS AND SIGNATURES
The Jaeger Conn-Pod has a number of key features are labelled in the image:
1) Jaeger stats, including Speed, Skill, Power, Armour, and Points values.
2) Ranger slots, where the Ranger Cards chosen for this battle are placed.
3) Charge counter, where the current charge of the Jaeger is displayed.
4) Ammo counter, similar to the Charge counter, this displays the current Ammo.
5) Structure points, which show how much damage the Jaeger can take before it’s destroyed.
6) Upgrade slot, where an Upgrade Card is placed. There are many different upgrades that are used to modify and customise a Jaeger.
The Kaiju Signature is used like the Jaeger Conn-Pod but by the Kaiju player. It has a number of gameplay relevant features as indicated:
1) Kaiju stats, including Speed, Skill, Power, Armour, and Category rating.
2) Rage counter, where the current Rage of the Kaiju is displayed.
3) Mutation slots, where offensive and defensive Mutation cards are placed.
4) Structure points, which show how much damage the Kaiju can take before it’s killed.
5) Kaiju Blue counter, where the current Kaiju Blue level is displayed.
ACTION CARDS
During a game round, players control either Jaegers or Kaiju on their turn by playing ‘Action Cards’. These represent all-out attacks, cunning tricks, solid defences, secret weapons, and everything else the machines and monsters can do!
Each miniature has a set of 6 specific Action Cards, with four main features which are labelled in the image:
1) The identification, showing which model the card belongs to.
2) The title of the card, the name of the weapon or ability.
3) The action(s) you can choose to perform that turn.
4) The ‘Damage’, the effect of which varies from card to card. This represents different parts of a Jaeger or Kaiju being hit and damaged.
DAMAGE
When Jaegers or Kaiju take damage, the player who dealt the damage takes an action card at random from their opponent and reads the Damage section of the card to find out what happens. There's a chance that a critical part of Jaeger machinery, or Kaiju biology, will be struck with massive consequences. The Action Card that was drawn as Damage is then discarded, and cannot be used for the rest of the game. In this way, dealing damage to an enemy not only brings them closer to destruction but can also render weapons or abilities useless.
When a Jaeger or Kaiju has taken Damage equal to their Structure Points total, they are destroyed! If either the Jaegers or Kaiju are all destroyed, the surviving side will have claimed victory, but winning isn't always that simple. If the Kaiju meet their objective before they are all killed, they win the battle and the PPDC will be forced to retreat. Every Scenario and Objective Card will change the way the battle must be fought and won, often drastically.
Knowing your enemy and accurately predicting their actions will be an invaluable tool in defeating your opponent in Pacific Rim: Extinction. Below, the designers give some tips on how to gain the advantage in the battle:
TACTICS
Know your Hex Gauge. Learning how to move your Kaiju and Jaegers with finesse is a very important skill. When moving, you may move your model up to its Speed value forward and make one pivot. Jaegers can pivot left or right, one Hex side after each move. Kaiju can pivot left or right, one Hex side before or after each move. This means that a Jaeger has to telegraph their moves whereas a Kaiju can be more fluid and react to changing situations better. Either way, learning how quickly you can turn and when to commit to a plan of action is very important!
Flanking. In a one on one fight it’s hard to get around your foe, but with allies, it can be considerably easier. When attacking a target from the back arc (the three hexes behind it) the target does not get to use their skill to defend, a great way to crack particularly defensive Kaiju! The worst position to be in is sandwiched between two enemies, with no way to turn without presenting your weak spot to someone! Some Jaegers and Kaiju have special abilities that allow them to get out of such sticky situations like Hakuja's burrow - allowing the Kaiju to dig underground and come up in another location. Saber Athena can leap into combat, sliding around her enemies to strike from behind with her special flying knee attack!
We will be charging shipping once the Kickstarter is over, based on the actual costs. We will collect the information via our pledge manager after the campaign ends, and will ship your rewards at our cost to our international hubs. Depending on where in the world you are, we will either ship to you from our hub in the USA or the UK. All shipping will be sent tracked.
Keep in the mind the values below are just estimates, and costs may rise based on weight increases from unlocked stretch goals and any optional buys you choose.
If this Kickstarter and the number of unlocked stretch goals reach a certain size then we will be splitting the shipping down into smaller shipping Waves. Please be aware there will be additional shipping charges per wave.

Risks and challenges
Although of course there are risks and challenges to any new endeavour, the foreseeable obstacles on this project are small. We have run several successful Kickstarters before, delivering on time, and are confident that we will be able to deliver this exciting new game on time and with a high production standard.
SHIPPING AND DELIVERY
There are some variables in terms of timing when it comes to anything produced in China, such as:
Production delays
Shipping delays
Customs delays
The estimated delivery date is November 2018, but keep in mind this is only an estimate. Also, due to the logistics of international shipping, backers in different regions of the world may receive their rewards sooner than others.
To mitigate any delays, our rules, cards and components are fully designed and playtested and our production quotes are in with appropriate tolerances for any setbacks. Prototypes and mockups have been made to ensure that everything will be perfect for release. The only thing we need is you, the public, to make this the best product it can be!

If you confirm your pledge within 8 weeks of our notification via email, you agree that our responsibility to you is to ship your order as entered into our pledge manager system, that title and risk passes to you upon delivery to a common carrier for such shipment, and you are responsible for import duties or any other duties that may be payable to the relevant tax authorities, providing correct address information and ensuring this address is deliverable by normal methods.
If you do not accept these terms, please do not pledge on this project but instead wait for the general release.
